Rose has earned the benefit of a doubt by making those clever low key plays imo. He hasn't gone name chasing yet, so I don't think it's fair to assume that's what's behind the Thibs interest. That's not to say Rose won't wind up just chasing names in the bigger roles like roster and coach, but just that so far we haven't seen that motivation. It feels like Rose had a plan and brought in people who a) he has a personal connection with thus trusts and b) who had some sort of desire to be in NYC (Brock Aller story coming to mind). Thibs fits both of those criteria just as much if not moreso than being a big name (because at this point his name has been dragged through the mud).

Just to reiterate my stance on him though, Thibs is low on my totem pole but above unacceptable.

It’s the same Knicks story regardless of the author of going after damaged/outdated goods.

In the case of Perrin/Aller/Zanin it was all guys who had reached the glass ceiling at their organizations but people knew they had done a good job while there. Thibs is coming off of years of decline. He didn’t get a raw deal with the wolves, he did badly there. We’ve seen him fail on a similar situation, but we expect him to do better in NY in a tougher situation and no Jimmy Butler trade on the horizon.

I don't think coaches work like that for evaluation. They're not athletes who rise, hit a prime and then slowly decline. A coach can evolve or reinvent himself; a coach can go from a personnel that doesn't work for him to a roster that fits his style and suddenly things click. The factors that make a coach improve or regress can mean a 70 year old is elite and a 40 year old is running a busted offense. We've seen coaches look good, then bad, then good again. D'antoni being the obvious example, Doc Rivers ups and downs in reputation being another.

So what's this mean for Thibs in my mind? The league figured out his defense. That didn't prevent him from giving the Wolves their best single season since 2004 though. His Bulls teams never fell off, they won 50 games the year he left and that's well after Rose fell apart. He was on an Olympic team's staff coaching with Mike K too. Could a basketball obsessed cat who was once considered one of the great minds in basketball reinvent himself and find a roster that helps him bounce back? It's happened before, so sure.

Not only that, the majority of the names we're hearing most are either damaged goods or have zero track record to work with. Jackson has a terrible rep. KD and Kyrie ran Atkinson out of town from the injury list (and this guy's my top pick). Miller already lost a lot of the Knicks fans in half a season. It's on some, let he who has not sinned cast the first stone tip. None of these names is exciting and they all have red flags and question marks to worry about.

All of that to say...I'm not particularly excited for anyone we're seeing thrown out as an option. Thibs gives me the same general malaise as everyone else.

Not even going to argue with people’s opinion but Thibs ain’t the move.

We been on this Legit good run of low key come ups and now we chasing the big name coach who failed his last job spectacularly cause he use to be nice?!?

That’s pure Dolan mentality, you cannot support Thibs and then want to shyt on Dolan, because you’re thinking like Dolan.
Facts.

If Thibs comes here, the Knicks organization is full of incompetent dumbasses. I wish they had an Alvin Gentry type coach. One that would bench players, rookie or vet for doing dumb shyt instead of pitying them.

Who cares if Randle brings his little biracial kid on court, that nikka fukking sucks and has dinosaur arms. He can't even get a fukking rebound but Thibs the type of coach to put him out there cause he's a nice person.

:dwillhuh: Gentry’s defense is W.O.A.T. and his rotations are deep

Thibs is the ass hole :wtf:

Ok I’m still back to it...I’m not trying to disrespect Knicks Brehs...but is coach thibs really the coach to lead a building team?

like it’s really no other candidates maybe imi udoka or Adrian Griffin or coaches I’m not even thinking about what about the spurs coaches? I mean my Cavs fukked up selecting a coach also and than randomly doubled down without actually looking...but i was thinking the Knicks were going to take a new way forward.

I like the vision and style of play Kenny had for the Nets but his in game adjustments were atrocious and players eventually got sick of him :francis:

Thibs would've been a great choice 10 years ago, nobody wants to see Thibs walk through that door in 2020. I guess we didn't learn anything from the triangle debacle :francis:

At least Fizdale had the foresight to play RJ 40 minutes a game in preparation for Thibs :mjlol:

I gotta a cousin who's been a Nets fan since NJ and the Drazen/Kenny/DC days. He HATED Kenny Atkinson. This was pretty much his demeanor whenever talking about him: :mindblown:

He said the same shyt about his adjustments. I never watch the Nets so I can't confirm. As far as Thibs, I've recently been reminded that the game D Rose got hurt hurt, the Bulls were up big and he had no business being on the court that late in the 4th. :francis:
