Drafting a player doesn't guarantee they'll be good just because you selected them. Look, I agree with you that the Knicks should select a high ceiling player but that's only because they finally seem to be focusing on development. But there are also other teams who are already far beyond us in terms of a development system being in place. The chances of us selecting a player and another high ceiling player being selected afterwards being really really good is gonna be high no matter who we select. We should try to select based on both upside and fit. If that's Cole Anthony then cool but I'm not so sure it is.
Knicks should go w/ bpa available and figure out the rest later whether it be cole, kira lewis, etc.
if it's between cole and vassell cole all the way
cole has a higher ceiling, fills a need at pg, and will fit well w/ rj IMO
if rj develops into at least a good playmaker even better as he will act as point forward of the team while cole focuses on scoring
the knicks need more high flyers (cole has a 43 inch vert) in the garden

You have to choose between best player available and higher ceiling... At least in this draft.

I understand the desire for Cole...but I just can't talk myself into an athletic ball hog PG with injury concerns. I also disagree with the statement that he'll play well with RJ...we already seen what a PG who won't pass to an open RJ does...imagine one who actually has an offensive game but still won't pass.

If you're talking about better fit and better overall player then you go Vassell...you only go Cole because of the ceiling

I agree Vassell is a better fit, but drafts are about bpa not fit unless the talent is very comparable
This draft is kind of an exception because after the sure fire picks, we don't know wtf is going to happen :mjlol:
So to everyone the talent is comparable :mjlol:
Vassell could end up having a Kawhi like trajectory and turn into a star and Cole can't shoot for shyt and is playing in China in 5 years :yeshrug:
Or Cole becomes a star and Vassell becomes a role player like I predict
But as of right now, I prefer Kira, Cole, etc. over Vassell

Drafts are about whatever the front office thinks they're about. When Donovan Mitchell was getting passed on by numerous teams, you think teams were thinking about BPA? There's too much evidence in past drafts to act like swinging for the fences is a sensible way to select a player. Selecting Cole Anthony is a very Knicksy move. I'm done with that.

I won't knock your opinions but A) ain't nothing wrong with selecting a role player who can help your team now, B) ESPECIALLY when you are trying to tap into your young players upside, and C) when that role player can actually being your team an identity. We select guys like Vassell, Bane and Kira, we're buying into our young guys turning into something. We select Cole and we're buying into him turning into something. That's my perspective here

Nothing wrong w/ doing A-C but I don't agree with that here for this draft in the case of an 8th pick
Maybe your right front offices are whatever they think they are about but I assume the front offices don't know wtf this weird draft is about outside the top picks :mjlol:
2021 is better filled w/ top talent
Knicks select Cole because they believe he elevates the overall talent of the team
Drafting Cole doesn't mean the Knicks are buying him turning into something and forgetting everyone else
Drafting Cole means adding more talent to the young core
You don't think the Knicks want to draft a nice scoring mate for RJ that can they can develop too?
Mitch as of this moment is just a rim runner and Scrambles needs to go
Knox needs to prove himself and Frank won't be that scoring mate
I see no issues drafting Cole
He is a scoring PG that fills a position of need, can hit the open 3, has a nice pull up game, and will make RJ the point forward
What do the Knicks have to lose?
Every season is the same as the last so if I'm responsible for draft I'm drafting the higher ceiling player while signing replaceable role players instead of wasting my 8th pick on one
It also doesn't have to be Cole either just whoever is BPA I like Kira and some others as picks if they are available

Knicks select Cole because they believe he elevates the overall talent of the team
His weaknesses are that he trusts his own shot too much, thinks every shot is a good one, holds the ball too long, and has no vision. These are not the attributes a player who elevates his team

I think the Knicks want to draft a good player period. If you draft a contributor you're adding talent to your team. I think they want RJ to develop and actually learn how to contribute within a functional offense. That means they have to cater to his strengths and weaknesses. I don't see how drafting Cole does either.

Wings who can shoot efficiently and play great defense are replaceable now? :ohhh:

We agree here

more replaceable than potential stars
imagine if after the whole kp fiasco (injury prone but a star when healthy) all they had to show for it was a role player for the 3rd pick instead of rj :snoop:
role players are effective when you have a solid enough talent base otherwise you are going to get a dumpster fire of a season as always and role players will look worse than they really are
the knicks need to get as much talent as they can
the things you mentioned about cole were some concerns about rj as well in terms of shot selection and selfishness yet these concerns were proven to be false even though they are lot more of a concern for cole to be fair
let's add some context
cole played on one of the least talented team his college ever had w/ shyt spacing (potentially worse than rj) and was therefore forced to be the primary offense every night w/ no help in sight w/ this shyt spacing
he is also only 20 years old and is mainly a scoring pg who I think will help the Knicks with his skill set
He can improve as a decision maker, play maker, and being selfless :yeshrug:
however worst case they draft him and I see him freezing out RJ :snoop:
if players don't fit you figure out a trade look at monta ellis and curry everyone knew it needed to happen so if cole and rj don't fit and rj is the better player trade his ass :lolbron:
knowing the knicks luck they pass on him and he excels in a good system with a decent coach w/ great spacing :snoop:

I like Vassell a lot.

Cole won’t pass to R.J.? I don’t believe that lol.

And I believe a scoring guard with a point forward is a good match.

We need to badly replace Randle with a stretch 4 like Gallo, Bertans, Ibaka, Morris twin.

I also want to monitor the restricted situation of Malik Beasley.
