I actually think this team was constructed with tanking in mind. That isn’t a bad concept at all when considering where the Knicks are as a team. They made responsible bids for some FA but didn’t make stupid contracts like what the Knicks did a year ago.

I think long term assets were added based on their fit to RJ (Quickley and Obi) but the short term the focus was on acquiring additional short term assets (playoff level roleplayers on short contracts) to pull trades that can gain the knicks long term assets (picks and players on rookie contracts with potential). That means short deals (like last year) that are cost effective (unlike last year).

Let’s say the Knicks actually like Spellman as a potential PF big. Then the Ed Davis trade was a perfect example of the type of moves the Knicks are doing this year.

In that scenario, the very cost effective contracts for Austin Rivers, Nerlins Noel, Elfrid Payton, and Alec Burks makes a lot of sense. Also Frank, and DSJ can be added to either pile (long term asset or short term asset) depending on if the Knicks like their fit or not as well. Julius Randle is a $18 Mil contract that expires into $4 Mil next year, and they can outright absorb another $18 Mil. So even non playoff teams that want to cut budgets could come knocking.

The Knicks could spend this whole season highlighting their short term assets while letting the long term assets get decent minutes, because there are not as many of them log jammed in the same position. Even when the Knicks lose a lot of games (and they will) it would on the low be the most productive season since we had 54 wins.

Next years Draft is stacked. The Mavs might miss the playoffs too. We’ll either have a lot of cap space again or draft capitol to compensate. This is what a rebuild looks like.

Better than the negativity that comes from all those other mfs in the media

They single handily put a negative black cloud over us

Ian Begley and Mike Vorkunov are good, plus all the guys associated with the Knicks Wall. Hahn is just PR at this point. Also I expect Woj to change his whole attitude towards the Knicks. Leon Rose is giving him insider info so he’ll likely kiss this regimes ass for the continued exclusives.

you think it’ll be higher or lower?

I am hoping the Mavs get shook after seeing Klay re-injure himself and take their time bringing KP back. Luka is elite, but doing that consistently was with teams having to also stop KP. Who at this point is a legit injury risk big.

They replaced a lot of their veteran depth with rookies. James Johnson and Josh Richardson were also good adds..... but the west as a whole got better, and those two don’t really move the dial for the Mavs.

Pelicans, Suns, Blazers, Wolves, Warriors are all better this year. Rockets might fall off but they haven’t broken the team up yet. The Grizz and Utah got legit talent that is a year better, and the Spurs might get their shyt together because they are the Spurs. That’s ignoring the automatic top three Lakers, Denver and Clippers.

I just think all of that is a recipe for the Mavs to fall out the playoffs this year and then recoup next year with a healthy KP and significant cap room.

I'm saying we are better than the 2nd worst record. Roster has more balance this year vs last

that’s a fair analysis, hope you’re right:ehh:

I think I still have them pegged as a 6/7th seed. Luka can carry them to wins and they have gotten a bit better defensively with Josh Richardson

all dependent on KP tho

Mavs ain’t falling out Luka is going to keep that offense potent and they will continue to win games they have enough depth

Mavs went 11-7 without Porzingis last season.
