Two things happened to rollerblades.
1) Errybody kept busting they ass on 'em. I know too many dudes who got the shyts and never kept up with it and just let 'em dry rot in a closet somewhere until they got tossed back in the early 90's.
2) shyts was expensive as hell back when the boom was happening so if you fukked up a blade or a wheel on one you pretty much had to do without that shyt 'cause your folks wasn't gonna buy you a new one and you wasn't wasting a christmas/birthday present on shyt you done had before.
The majority of us that could use bikes, just kept with the shyts since you ain't had to have nothing more than a can of oil and one of those chain setting tools to pull the chain down to the low gear if it ever slipped and you was good to go.

As a 20 year old, my middle school field trips only consisted of roller skating trips. After middle school they all got shut down so they were no longer a spot to chill, too much violence.

I never liked rollerblades but I had these when I was a child 
Also We had a skating spot also in my city when I was 14-15 and it was popular on Fridays, sometimes there'd be overnights lol which was mostly just girls in my age group getting finger banged at this spot lol

I chipped my front tooth rollerblading. Jumped over a table and smashed my face against the wall. Never rollerbladed again. Had to live for about 4 years with the nas chipped tooth

This,
I still quad skate almost every weekend, yes, females do notice when you can dance on skates, and it makes it hella easy to strike up convo. We have our 18 and over hip hop and r&b nights, if cats saw some of the females that come out for it, they would grab some rentals and hit the floor with the quickness. Now the blades I can't do, only quads.
