We didn't call it a come back since he had been there for years.

There was a point in time where everyone was signing this song, even people who werent into Hip Hop. Video was popular too. That year it was one of those 'catch phrases' everyone repeated. It might actually be the most mainstream/popular diss track of all time.

I can agree. And to take it further, MTV had LL on Unplugged, to perform that song. The significance of this is that before that happened, there had never been a rapper doing Unplugged, let alone a rapper doing a hardcore hip hop song, where he mentions pulling out his 9mm gun. And like the dude before me said, it was also a diss track. It was major. It was also major bc you saw the growth in LL and for the next few years after that, you saw other rappers taking that same route. It even threw Big Daddy Kane off his game bc he started trying to do what LL was doing but it wasn't his persona and he ultimately fell off as a result. BUT, the producer that worked with LL on the album was Kane's previous producer, Marley Marl. I found that interesting.

This song was crazy...Walking with a Panther (the album before this and his 3rd album overall) was pretty weak. So cats were looking for something crazy and boy did they get it with this.

I believe the lead single was "Boomin System" and of course he had "Around the way Girl" on that album . I banged with that album in 90.

:wow: No song ever got me more amped than that. I used to be in the house whylin out like a white boy listening to heavy metal when the video came on Rap City or Yo! Almost all the guys in my 5th grade class used to be humming the melody in unison. That shyt was a phenomenon.

I was an LL fan since "I'm That Type of Guy". That song was so disrespectful i was fascinated. "Mama Said..." is still my favorite album of his...He was my favorite rapper until Illmatic Dropped.

It was like i felt so tough just like LL cool j in that video and then my mother came home and told me to keep the noise down and go downstairs and take out that garbage. It was nighttime and the trash was outside in the dark, where it was scary. :merchant: I didnt know Brazillian Jiujitsu at this time so the dark was still a bit scary to me.

It was monstrous, yo.

and it is one of the few original songs that didn't get overshadowed by the In Living Color parody.
