Game 2 (Lakers win, 98-89) 2001 finals vs sixers

Statistics: 47 MIN, 11-23 FG, 1-2 3FG, 8-8 FT, 8 REB, 6 AST, 2 STL, 2 BLK, 2 TO, 31 PTS

Coming off of perhaps his worst overall Finals effort, Kobe would turn in one of his best. Again playing all but one minute of the game, Bryant would score early and often in an attempt to forget his Game 1 performance.

LA would build a double-digit lead early, on the strength of Kobe's 12 first quarter points. Along with his game-high point total, Bryant would bounce back from his poor defensive effort in Game 1, holding Iverson to 10-29 shooting for only 23 points.

The Game 2 victory tied the series at 1-1, and displayed Bryant's ability to dominate at both ends of the court.

Game 3 (Lakers win, 96-91) 2001 finals vs sixers

Statistics: 48 MIN, 13-30 FG, 0-2 3FG, 6-6 FT, 6 REB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 0 BLK, 3 TO, 32 PTS

Once again displaying supreme will and endurance, Kobe Bryant would play in every minute of Game 3.

This game was most notable as Kobe's return to his hometown of Philadelphia. Eager to show his ability in front of his family and friends, Bryant would shoot 10-16 in the opening half, including a stretch in which he scored on five straight offensive possessions.

Despite cooling off considerably in the second half, Kobe would help lead the Lakers to victory after Shaq fouled out with 2 minutes to play. Finding Robert Horry for multiple clutch baskets, Bryant, the game's leading scorer, would help to regain homecourt advantage in the series.

Game 4 (Lakers win, 100-86) finals vs sixers

Statistics: 43 MIN, 6-13 FG, 0-2 3FG, 7-12 FT, 10 REB, 9 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 19 PTS

In the most impressive Laker victory of the series, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal made good on Kobe's promise to "cut their hearts out."
Led by O'Neal's 34 points and Bryant's near-triple double, Los Angeles pushed the 76ers to the brink of elimination.
As Phil Jackson noted after the game, Kobe Bryant was possibly the best player on the floor, finishing one assist shy of a triple double, and providing stifling defense on Iverson, who scored 35 points on 12-30 shooting. Jackson also noted that Kobe seemed to be the key to the series, as the Lakers had only won when he had played well.

Game Three (Lakers win, 106-103) 2002 finals vs nets

Statistics: 46 MIN, 14-23 FG, 1-3 3FG, 7-10 FT, 6 REB, 4 AST, 1 STl, 2 BLK, 36 PTS

Playing their first NBA Finals game at home, New Jersey came out determined not to fall behind 3-0. Kobe Bryant had other ideas. Bryant played arguably his best Finals game to this point in his career, and had 12 points in the critical fourth quarter.

Trailing for most of the game, L.A. began the fourth quarter with Shaq on the bench, and Bryant began the comeback. His jumpshot with three minutes to play gave the Lakers their first lead of the fourth.

Twice in the final minute New Jersey cut the lead to two points, and twice Kobe answered with isolation jumpshots over Kidd's spectacular defense. Bryant's shot with 19 seconds remaining pushed the Los Angeles lead to four again, effectively ending the game.

Kobe would finish with 36, a career high in the Finals. For just the second time in his NBA Finals career, Bryant would outshine O'Neal, despite Shaq's 35 point effort.

Between this performance and Bryant's performance in Game Four of the 2000 NBA Finals, it became clear that L.A. could not win with O'Neal dominating for three quarters before a Hack-A-Shaq fourth. They needed Bryant to be the fourth quarter closer.

Game Four (Lakers win, 113-107) 2002 finals vs nets

Statistics: 44 MIN, 7-16 FG, 2-3 3FG, 9-11 FT, 6 REB, 8 AST, 2 STL, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 25 PTS

After O'Neal dominated the first three quarters (finishing with 34 points), Bryant took over in the fourth. His 11 points in the final quarter would be crucial, as the Nets once again climbed back into the game. Another overlooked part of his game was his continued defensive dominance of Kidd, who would shoot 5-14 in the game, and under 40 percent for the series.

Game 4 (Lakers win, 120-118) 2000 finals vs pacers

Statistics:

47 MIN, 14-27 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 4 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL, 2 BLK, 3 TO, 28 PTS

In one of the greatest clutch performances in NBA Finals history, Kobe Bryant introduced himself to basketball’s biggest stage. Playing on an ankle that required heavy taping and ice throughout the game, Bryant pushed the Pacers to the brink of elimination. In the first half, Bryant appeared rusty and his ankle seemed to be a major problem. He would score only 6 points in the opening half, and picked up 4 fouls in his attempts to guard Mark Jackson and Reggie Miller.

It did not appear to improve for Kobe early in the second half, as he collected his fifth foul in the third quarter. However, worrying that his ankle would tighten with rest, Phil Jackson left Bryant in the game. He responded by making three consecutive baskets, and pulling the Lakers ahead. The Pacers would eventually pull even on a Sam Perkins three-pointer, and the game would go to overtime.

Kobe had scored 14 points in the second half, but O’Neal was still the Lakers’ first option, and continued to score early in the extra period. However, with 2:33 remaining in the game, Shaq fouled out. Facing the possibility of allowing the Pacers to draw even in the series, Phil Jackson allowed the 21-year-old Bryant to run isolation plays on three consecutive offensive possessions. On each of the three trips, Bryant scored.

Despite his hot shooting, the Pacers would pull to within one point with less than 40 second remaining in overtime. As the shot clock expired on L.A.’s final possession, Brian Shaw shot and missed a runner. However, with his most clutch basket off the game, Kobe Bryant rebounded the miss and put it in a reverse layup. The three-point lead created by the basket would be too much for Indiana to overcome, and the Lakers would take an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the series. Bryant’s 8 points in overtime are the second most overtime points in NBA Finals history.

Game 6 (Lakers win, 116-111) 2000 finals vs pacers

Statistics:

45 MIN, 8-27 FG, 2-6 3FG, 8-9 FT, 10 REB, 4 AST, 1 STL, 2 BLK, 1 TO, 26 PTS

Playing with an opportunity to win a championship on their home floor, the Lakers proved to be up to the task. Despite a poor shooting performance, Bryant once again proved himself in the clutch, hitting five free throws in the final minutes to hold off the Pacers’ comeback attempt. While O’Neal would rightfully be named Most Valuable Player of the Finals, Kobe Bryant had made his presence felt, and would return to the Championship Round the following year with a far larger impact.

2009 finals vs Orlando game 1

Kobe logged 40 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds in Game 1 of the 2009 NBA Finals. In the third quarter he scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, outscoring the Magic's 15 points in the quarter on his own. His standout near-triple-double performance set the tone for what would be a five-game series and title for the city of L.A.
