Once you get over your ego being in a relationship is pointless

Really friendships are better. They're loose and free. You do what you want they do what they want and nobody has to answer to anybody. Far less chance of them being ruined by the things that ruin relationships. No pressure, expectations, or obligations.

People don't really like to admit it but relationships are selfish entities. The whole point of advancing a friendship to a relationship is egotistical possession of another person which realistically isn't even possible anyway.

The only problem is if your friend ended up in a relationship someone else's egotistical selfish desires of possession would ruin your friendship.

In any relationship you get into i suggest you "kill" the relationship as soon as it starts. By that i mean, understand that it will end at some point, leaving you the opportunity to enjoy it in the present. The beauty of life is the drama, the fighting, the unexpected nature of relationships gives color to a very dull rock. You can play the game to come out clean or you can play the game for the game's sake. Always have in the back of your head that it is only a game.

the whole premise of a relationship is possession of another person which really isn't possible. i mean think about it God gave humans free will and doesn't even make an attempt at possession. God's attitude is do as you will.

when you break "cheating" down to what it really is it's someone exercising their free will against your wishes.

Definitely, the best way to approach a relationship is to remove any expectations, hopes or goals like you said. Its funny because when you say to someone " Hey do whatever you want, if you want to be with so and so or do so and so" they will most likely want to stay with you, but if you try and control and dictate the other person actions "be with me, or you must love me" they will most likely leave.

What i was alluding to was the idea that every relationship is well and truly in your head and that we are all playing a game. If you approach every relationship with this openess you tend to use the right amount of energy to deal with whatever comes your way, instead of having pre-conceived notions about people's intent and or agendas.
