Dude did say he would never fully trust him because he wasn’t white, and would turn on them at the drop of a dime. And he wasn’t fw it because she was a kid. They already showed his trepidation
I don’t know how to spoiler but Respectfully disagree when you consider he knew what his fate would be by his actions.

I read it as her keeping it from him the way he kept from her that her mother was a rat. The letter from her mom saying to give your dad a hug and kiss for me told us that.
Interesting perspective… but he witheld information from a child. She witholding information from a grown man reeks of false équivalence to me.

There’s nothing to disagree with. That’s objectively what the movie did to explain it. You don’t think they did a good job of it, but I didn’t speak on the quality

I’m disagreeing with your rationale. The movie did nothing imo to explain this disconnect. It’s all good.

Saw this last night, and absolutely loved it. Might've legit been a rare case of near perfect casting from top to bottom, even if I was surprised by how many musicians had on screen roles.

Since I chose to go in with nothing more than the info given in the trailers, I wasn't fully aware how much of a satire this was intended to be, and wasn't really feeling how the revolutionaries were portrayed at first, until it finally hit that that was kind've the point.

To me, Peridia and Lockjaw came off as mirrored characters with the same major flaw. They do what they do because they feel like they're essentially genetically and historically meant to. Lockjaw because he's a white supremacist, and Perfidia because, as her mother said, she comes from a long line of revolutionaries. I think what the movie was getting at was that since they both assumed their roles via heritage, neither was really who they thought they were, as noted by his pure delusion over joining the CACs, and her folding when they offered her a deal to snitch. There's a possibility that she legit never considered that the people she snitched on would die.

Bob going through the whole movie without doing much of anything effectively, and seemingly completely ignoring that the Sensei was actually about that life for real, and probably did a better job of preparing Willa than he did, was hilarious. In fact, if Bob hadn't somehow completely missed the fact that she had a phone, there's a chance she never actually gets caught by Lockjaw in the first place. :dead:

This movie's marketing had the YNs at the 11pm show I saw last night pissed off. They went in expecting a balls to the wall action flick and got sociopolitical commentary sprinkled with quirky dry humor.

I liked it.. didn't LOVE it. 7/10

Taylor's character was obnoxious as shyt (much like I imagine her to be in real life) and I was happy that her screen time was mercifully brief (for a 3 hour movie)

Part of this movie feels like a love letter to The Big Lebowski. Leo's character is basically a slightly more cerebral version of the "dude". He's even running around in a bathrobe.

The Illuminati/Christmas Adventurers were hilarious and probably my favorite part of the film.

Bringing back Sean Penn's character from getting shot in the throat with a shot gun only to kill him off again was an odd choice. His character also was about a stone's throw from becoming too cartoony even for this flick.

I interpreted that as playing into the theme of some of the characters being self centered to the point of being blind to what's really going on, and Lockjaw being so to a level that brought about delusional arrogance. If the CACs has the level of power and influence they said they had, and were able to find anything they wanted via their background checks, then there was no way they weren't going to connect the dots between him hiring the bounty hunter and then raiding an entire city, especially with as messy as it got. And the odds of randomly getting shot in the face on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere are pretty low. He was just so obsessed with confirming his status that he never considered it might be them, even when he was coming up with that bullshyt story about being raped.

Honestly I can’t help but think back to the two Steely Dan references in the film, followed by what seemed like the pay off in that scene. First you hear the song (“I don’t want to do your dirty work, anymore”), then Bob references the band’s sound while lying to Willow about where he was, then in the final act you get it. Indian Breh was done shoveling dirt for those people.

Saw this today and thought it was coo. Little overrated tho. Obviously its well shot and the acting is incredible by everyone. And I laughed a lot. Leo was funny af and imo is one of his more impressive performances.
Penn was just a different animal himself. Playing that weird ass fukked up character like how he got into that mode, pure professional. Chase Infiniti is good too. Very beautiful girl.

Overall its a good ass flick but its a bit overpraised in some aspects. I'll watch it again eventually.

8/10

Once Teyanna Taylor's character exited the movie early i was relieved. Movie got substantially better without her. She's great but I thought she was mad annoying.
