Wow wow wow. What an absolute fakkit ass movie. This is why I hate interracial relationships BW - WM. Just despicable.

So you mean to tell me this long line of revolutionaries ends up sleeping around with what seems to be exclusively white men? "Do you like black girls?" and being a straight up oversexualized, unhinged, dead beat disappear 1/3 of the movie mother? Seeded up by the absolute white devil of all devils that has some weird complex, not seeing black women / people as equal humans? And you lead us to believe you firstly were seeded up by the goofiest of white boy fukkups, a drug addicted drunkard who can never seem to get his shyt right? The first man she kills is a black man just trying to do his job. Then when she gets jammed up, she snitches and gets nearly the WHOLE CREW WIPED.

Teyana really did a big disservice to black women with this one, but most people won't see it.
Paul Thomas Anderson, all his other movies with love interests, the white woman is courted, treated like respect.
But his first movie with a major lead black women love interest..."DO YOU LIKE BLACK GIRLS?!" "LET'S fukk BEFORE THE BOMB GOES OFF" like a feral fukking animal, who has us the audience even guessing who tf the baby daddy is.

Shake my fukking head man. Let's not even mention the wtf moments and plot holes. What a sloppy propaganda piece.

  • Leo forgets any bomb making tactics, doesn't use that at all for like the 4/5 of the rest of the movie?? I was thinking when they pulled up to his spot, I was like surely he rigged it with explosives or something. Of course not.
  • Just wtf was up with that handoff? The mexican dude drops the halfie off, then has a change of heart and just decides to shoot up the place, ending up with HIM TOO BEING KILLED?? Made zero sense.
  • Leo just kicks up his feet, taking fakkit ass selfies even when he is still probably on the FBIs most wanted list (even though he was super opposed to modern tech?)
  • Now Willa or whatever her name is driving 3 1/2 hours to hold up signs to protest because her mother's tactics failed? (That felt like a propoganda piece slip in as in, alright negros, you see what happens when you blow up things, be the new behaving generation and hold up signs and peacefully protest)
  • It's still blowing my mind that again, NO ONE is after them anymore? Where did they get that house in the end? The Christmas CACs, they seemed super organized and thorough, they are not on WIlma's head?
  • Regina Hall's character, wtf happened to her?
  • The dude interviewing the kids, Regina Hall, the first guy that got caught, so he's just giving up totally on the search? It wasn't just lockjaw on the case, he was also interviewing tons of people to get to Bob and Tayana.
Anyways I can go on and on. But again, what a fakkit ass, the BW is super horny and easy for the WM, filled ass propaganda movie.

The only clean props I can give is Jonny Greenwood on the track.

You went in

I can respect it

  • Leo's brain is fried, they pointed out that he hadn't been doing shyt for the past 16 years except for raising Willa, drinking and getting high.
  • He didn't want anything to do with kids being hurt, Penn wanted him to do the job, he said nah, only accepted the offer to do the handoff. He did the handoff and Willa being hurt stll didn't sit right with him so he tried to set her free.
  • If you're talking about the end he's trying to figure out how to use the phone. I don't think he was ever on the most wanted list. He was anti tech because they were in hiding, they're not in hiding anymore.
  • Who would be after them? The only person after them was Penn, he led the miltiita after the bank robbery and was after them to get rid of Willa so he could join the CACs. He's dead. The CACs have no reason to go after Willa.
  • Regina's character in jail.
  • Why would he continue the search? Penn more than likely died thinking that Willa had been killed. That's why he thought he was accepted into the CACs.

I notice people get very angry or confused whenever films/tv/etc feature protagonists/main characters who aren't good at their roles. Couple years ago we saw this reaction to The Killer, which is largely about an assassin who fukks up. Leo's character is not a good revolutionary. He never was. And as he ages and fries his brain with drugs he only gets even more sloppy. So much of the film revolves around the idea of doing your part and then letting the next person - or generation - take the baton. Bob took that shyt as far as he could and then his daughter carried it from there.

There's also this weird, lazy brain thing people have been trained to think about when it comes to action that isn't resolved on screen. You need a scene to explain to you that Regina Hall's character gets arrested and never sees the light of day again? Same with Del Toro's character. Do we need a scene of a lawyer explaining that he's being hit with terrorism charges for aiding/abetting Bob? No.

Thought it was just me.

This desire for "competence" is the root of a lot of love for a lot of different characters in a lot of diff genres.

Mike from Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad is like the ultimate expression of a generation that grew up with old Macguyver shows in their faded memory.
