definitely a dark comedy. was laughing a lot.I agree. I think some people are overt thinking this flick. Its a dark comedy to me. Nothing really more or less.

I'd say movies like, The Truman Show, Big Fish, Sorry to Bother You and They Cloned Tyrone are examples of satirical films that the viewer clearly understands they're watching a satire.
Even with the dumbass KKK group/Christmas name, I didn't know if they were speaking in code or just trolling. Again, it goes back to how the film was written and the execution.
Glad I wasn't the only one.Gonna pretend I didn’t see that The Departed comp.
C’mon man.
I guess my issue is with PTA's World building for the movie's story. I'm familiar with afro surrealism and alternative scenario universe stories, I'm familiar with satire films etc.I’ll correct myself, I still stand on it not being a satire film. But it has satirical elements in it. When I think of a satire, Eddington, Borat, Anchorman, comes to mind, not this.
I understand Pynchon is know for his novels rooted in satire but how this movie was shot and directed it was created more in the vein of dark comedy than anything else. I don’t care what google or any other site says.
@GoldenGlove
The one thing that gives this film leeway with those small details you mention, is it’s not a serious movie. Essentially you’re holding realistic nitpicks as a sin for a movie but you acknowledge the movie isn’t serious lol. It’s like you’re fighting against what the film is actually presenting you.
about because in the grand scheme the world PTA built is essentially nonsensical.You already have a sequence where you hold a bunch of military officers at gunpoint then about 10 mins later in the film one of said officers just happens to find her with no explanation. Teyana not having a mask and gloves isn’t something to clinch fists
Nonsensical doesn’t necessarily mean bad or equate to bad writing. Oceans Eleven is nonsensical for example. You can get away with more because of the over the top stuff they do and the tone in how it’s directed.
From what I gather you would’ve preferred for the film to do things that actually happen in real life but that’s a preference, that doesn’t mean the writing is bad.
I just saw it. It's a good film but the way ppl acting like it's a front runner for best picture were meat riding a lil too hard. It was entertaining but nothing special.It’s one thing to not like the movie but saying there was inconsistency in the writing, plot holes and they did a bad job with satire?
It’s not a satire. Nor is it a serious film.
The tones of the film are pretty obvious. It’s a silly film using dark comedy for humor with some grounded elements. Just because the crux of the film utilizes revolution doesn’t mean there’s some deeper meaning. The writing was great, wasn’t any issues with how they moved the plot forward.
I really think people are making this movie more than it needs to be, there wasn’t any messages within or any deep subliminals.
She wasn't horrible. But her character was not written well imo then you add a subpar actor and it's ehhh. Her and Leo being lovers with how they portrayed it didn't seem realistic at all. I agree with Breh that says movie felt like satire a bit. Sean Penn did great but his story arc was like wtf. I also see why the trailers were so vague they didn't want to upset conservatives loool.Been avoiding spoilers like crazy. Hopefully yall give some convincing arguments on Teyana Taylor character because on the surface it look absolutely nuts. No way could I say this movie is bad. But it's alot in here. And maybe too much. But let me get to reading and see what yall say.
I said it in this thread already, but hearing Leo say lines like "I love black girls. Why the fukk do you think I'm here?" and "I don't know how to do her hair, man." were cringe af. PTA on someBut man, even you're favourite director can make you raise an eyebrow once they gotta deal with Black characters. Even the white characters in this were a bit of a cartoon.
