Jay-Z

out of all his "classic" albums - Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, American Gangster(and that's a stretch)... none have aged well. All his albums(and for the most part his career) are derivative.

He doesn't have anything groundbreaking as Illmatic, All Eyez on Me or Amerikkka's most wanted. Jay-Z's shyt can go.

There was nothing groundbreaking about All Eyez on Me, classic album yes. It's not even his best or second best album.

Jay-Z's second best album is arguably the best rap album in the past 15 years, let that sink in.
The blueprint sounds better than 95% of albums that came after it 15 years later :manny:

"The Blueprint" only exists because of "Supreme Clientele" though. There is no blueprint (no pun intended) for Ice Cube....and if we're counting NWA then Cube is a living blueprint.

All Eyez on me is the first double rap album released.

how is the blueprint the best rap album of the past 15 years?

Stillmatic, late registration, below the heavens.... have you tried listening to Blueprint in 2015? Jigga that nikka...hola hovito.. NONE of his albums have aged well.

im glad you replied like this. you just explained why so many peopled chose cube.

did yall read the title?
The title didnt say. if you were on an island in 2015 and had to get rid of one rappers music which would it be so you could listen to the others from today forward.

it said "One catalog has to go forever." This means if it goes then the impact that rapper made dies with it.

No Cube, NO NWA. no NWA, NO 2pac my friend. NO NWA = NO west coast GANGSTA RAP as we know it. this also means no DMX and no RUFF RYDERS, NO JADA. non of these type of rappers exist without NWA. Nas may not exist without cube. Nas was literally the east coast younger version of cube. hood/street reporter.

NO NWA NO "parental discretion is advised" stickers. meaning NO rappers can curse on record = no main stream gangsta rap. = No Main stream versions of Jayz either.

Know your history and read the title. we'll be waiting for your new choice... lol

did you actually read op's post...it literally says "Pick one. YOu can never listen to a song from that rapper again". That was clearly what he was asking, not about erasing history

Actually, it's not, Esham, Will/Jazzy been done that
And even if it was, it was still "just" a dope ass CD with great records. It was Pac in his most (relatively) shallow form, he had better substance (his biggest strength) before (MATW) and after (7 day).

It's funny you mention Stillmatic, when Blueprint aged WAY better than that album.
The Blueprint is (Arguably - you missed this very important qualifier) the best album in the 2000's because it had the impact (Jumpstarting Kanye, Just Blaze careers, revitalizing another GOAT contender), the lyrics, the production, and the replay value.

Fred.

I don't disagree, Supreme Clientele is one of the other albums I was thinking of when I made that statement
I agree with your cube point, he was a huge influence on 2 out of the other 3 cats on the poll. If we include his NWA days then you could argue he has a bigger impact than all the other 3.

By certain criteria All Eyez on Me is the greatest hip-hop album ever made

Jigga used to rap like his mentor Jaz O, Fu-Schnickens, and Das Efx. He switched his style up because of Nas. He bit the mafioso type raps that Kool G Rap, Nas, Rae, and Ghostface were doing.

imo Jay Z has about 4 forgettable albums (MCHG, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, Kingdome Come, and Blueprint 2)

"Nothing ground breaking about All Eyez on Me" ?? :rudy:

The album is the first example in hip-hop of a blockbuster album release. It's the equivalent of a movie with a $100 million budget, explosions and next level special effects in IMAX . . nothing special about it? Da fuq is wrong with you, can't recognize greatness when you see it

Furthermore, y'all muthaphukkas reiterating the logic exhibited in my first post like I ain't gonna catch that. Thinking you're just gonna throw around my logic to use in your generic replies

All Eyez on Me isn't groundbreaking because he wasn't personal? So it takes more genius to talk about yourself than to connect with the masses? To be personal now is suppose to be more valued than being universal? Because he didn't get all emotional and introspective on it it's suppose to be held in a lower regard than projects where he talks about himself, his pain, struggle, etc.?

Genius is often represented in simplicity. In fact, if you can't simplify . . hold up, I'll let Einstein explain it for you dummies

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"

spot the odd one out.....
Nas switched his style up between Illmatic to the mafioso themed rap in IWW once he saw how successful cats like Big, ghost and Rae were at those styles, stop trying to re-write history. Jay didn't bite no mafioso style from no damn nas.
Reasonable doubt was recorded and came out before IWW did.

I'm not rewriting history. Nas was doing mafioso raps with Kool G, AZ, Rae, & Ghost. Nas verse on the cuban link album came out pre-illmatic. Know your history

Good god, no! Doggy style, The Chronic, all fit the same criteria, especially doggy style. Man, ya'll need to stop with this re-writing history shyt. All eyes on me is one of hip hop's great albums, can we leave it at that please?
