It seems like he's trying to reset how "hotep" has been turned into a pejorative, especially towards mostly black men.
But he and the circles he runs in are the main culprits who helped push this narrative on the word that's now used as a wide net on anyone who's problack and pan-african.

He's an academic making academic content in long form video essays. They're meant to be researched at greater lengths so the topic is fully fleshed out. You can't go through all the history and wrap this up in 10 minutes. You don't have to watch in one sitting or you can choose to not watch at all.

I see your point but it’s not responding to my point. My point is that this video being this long doesn’t add to its quality but takes away from it. One of the first things you learn in communication is the message should only be as long as it needs to be to get the message across. After that, extra length is hurting the content. And in this case, I found that this message was overwrought with needless elaboration. You don’t need ten examples to make a point if three examples already got there.

The word "hater" destroyed hip hop. Because the bar of entry is so low (that's why SNL can easily do infinite rap parodies or little grannies can rap in movies as opposed to having to sing and play instruments), hip hop should have the most stringent quality standards. However, again because of low bar of entry, once labels, the wack, etc. realized they could make a lick with bullshyt instead of skills it was over. Criticizing this branded you a "hater" and so people just stopped doing it with any fortitude.

I think the issue is the word radical because black politics going all the way back to the antebellum period has always been on a spectrum because Frederick Douglass was a radical because he believed in the end of slavery and equal rights but he isn’t a Henry Highland Garnet or a Martin Delaney. this is a silly argument. not every topic must be or should be condensed just to get a message across. I get what you're saying in a way but there is no mandate on how information should be communicated. there are books on communism that are 1,000 pages and 100 pages, both could be seen as equally informative.

I don’t disagree with your example. But as someone who does communication professionally, when things are long unnecessarily it just detracts from its power, especially in this day and age when everything is fighting for your attention.

That said, my argument is also built upon my position that I don’t think my dude is saying anything profound. Or rather, it would come across as more profound if it were shorter. And most importantly, it would likely have greater reach.
