The onion should be in the potato salad and if anything the raisins belong in the ice cream.

Wouldnt be my first choice of toppings but if the alternative was onions

Carmelized onions are sweeter by nature of how they are prepped (especially white onions).

It's not at all shocking that it tastes good paired with cream and sugar. It can be a similar type of flavor to a frozen cream cheese with onion and sugar.
