And those who don't know that will watch it expecting a film similar to Drive. Let the film live or die on its own.

bro stfu there are many similarities and most ppl dont even kno this movie exists (thus why i said "aka"), i clearly explain all this in the opening post....im sorry i let the film die on its own. self-righteous prick

I generally don't really agree with critics with certain films...take Running Scared for instance...It didnt do well critically but NOONE can tell me that was a bad movie...,shyt was entertaining from start to finish...
running scared was fantastic. to this day its the only paul walker joint that i give dude credit for showing some decent acting chops. then he went back to the waterwell franchise and soaked up all the bread he can make off it. cant knock dude but he could have done more i feel if he wanted

I really liked this movie. So much going on during the movie. The symbolism...man this movie was meant to be watched more than once. When Chang was singing karaoke and the faces of his goons...man..that shyt was a crazy representation of religion!

its a rare film that is easily more enjoyable the second viewing and i wanna watch it a third time but wit friends of mine who havent watched it yet. im not a fan of catching movies over n over in a short span but it definitely has that effect of finding new layers peeled back with each new viewing. hell if u read my first post after watching it im in a state of shock at disappointment. then i repost later after my next watch and overwhelming different take.

Saw this over the weekend. I liked it a little more than Drive actually. Even though Drive's soundtrack is :noah:. Had a more interesting story to me and the long pauses weren't as annoying in this one. The violence was amped up to ridiculous levels.

Loved the movie. Liked it more than Drive.

Also laughing at the people over the net thinking this was gonna be "Gosling the Hero" like in Drive.

I guess that's what they're called critics - to critique/analyze, not necessarily just to say "this film is really entertaining - GO WATCH IT NOW!".

Like I said...fukk a critic...it was a great movie...period...critics give their OPINIONS on movies...OPINIONS which AREN'T always on point...there's plenty great movies thruout the course of history that got lukewarm reception when they first came out...on top of the fact that sometimes critics play favoritism depending on who's in the movie...or why there's a such thing as MIXED reviews...cause some critics feel one way and some feel the other...which boils down to what I said in the beginning..they are all opinions...

:dahell:

I don't see where this ties in with what I first posted.

The fact of the matter is, critics panned THIS film because there's no 'reason' to its madness (not because of the way its narrative screams anti-Hollywood). The whole mysticism vs western world take is done on an elementary level (even for surface-skimming), that if you've seen any off-the-wall surrealist films, you'd see why it pales in comparison.

The only reason I can see why anybody would praise this film as a WHOLE, is if they're unfamiliar with avant-garde-type films.

I'm not even talking about this Ryan Gosling film...I'm talking films in general..I've seen critics praise and overrate wack shyt...and I've seen them underrate good shyt...same with critics and reviewers of any other form of entertainment...from video games..to music..etc etc...that's the whole reason I even qouted u..not cause of this movie specifically...point I'm making is u can't always go by the critics...especially with certain films...martial arts films come to mind...I damn near NEVER listen to critics when it comes to those...cause majority of the times they suck at reviewing them...horror movies as well and this has been since forever..they even panned The Exorcist at first..and that's a horror classic...John Carpenter's The Thing as well...there's plenty examples of movies where the critics just DON'T GET IT...bottom line is..critics fukk up sometimes...it's happened time and time again thruout film history and even some of them will admit this...

Critics fukk up MOST of the time - you'll get no arguments from me on that. However, in comparison to the public, they know what they're talking about and the majority of them certainly aren't 'trained' to just like one style of film (like dude said).
