I just think people got different tastes in music. I don't think most people (who don't like him) are thrown off by his subject of matter.
It might be his flow, delivery, voice, rhyme schemes, his energy, some combination of it etc..


And as far as Drake goes, I think he talks about real shyt.
Maybe not real shyt to poor people, but all from insecurities in looks, with women, how to deal with success/failures, relationships, parties, friendships, family and more.
While not poverty, politics, crime and todays mathematics it's still real.

In any event he's in my top 3 of new artists, I've seen unjustified hate for him specially from people who like artists that are generally considered to be "boring artists" on their less appreciated material.

i don't hate drake tho.... I remember in 06 I was called a fakkit for playing his shyt at a barbershop, now those same nikkas like him. but he's a download for free and not buy artist just because of who he is, imo.. but i will say no one has better hit records right now.... but jcole speaks on the same shyt and more.

Honestly I have noticed that a lot of J Cole fans are in college/educated. SOME of the people who go out of their way to hate him will be the first ones hyping up Gucci Mane/Future/Rich Homie Quan level rappers. Im a big fan of J Cole and Kendrick Lamar because I can relate to their lyrics. I grew up in poverty but I was that nikka in the hood with dreams and goals that wanted to get out without selling crack or joining gangs.

Sure, there are smart people that like that ratchet trap shyt, but they sure ain't going out to buy their retail albums. Cole may be boring, but somehow, his fans will actually go out there and buy his retail shyt. No wonder his sophomore album is already gold while Ace Hood can't crack 100k albums with all that exposure he has.
