Did a playthrough of VI and wanted to play VIII but :mjtf:
This junction shyt seems unnecessarily complicated.

Did y'all like it when it first came out?

I didn’t initially like it on my first play through but I replayed it last summer and enjoyed it. It’s also up there with VII as the best OST, maybe even better. I rank it below 7 and 10 and above 9.

I need that Remake next after 7 is done though and it better be 1 part. :camby:

It's my fave mainline Final Fantasy of all time.
It's also the reason I press the attack/select button every time I hit something in Rpgs even though Super Mario Rpg had it first.
It's not perfect.
Some might argue it's not even good, but the music, the story, the characters and the time I played it back in the day places it firmly in my top 10 RPG experiences and top 20 games of all time.

It's an oddball game. The battle system isn't good. The story is alright but feels kinda half baked. After the first disc it declines. I think I'll replay it because I bought the Remaster on something and it's been a long time since I played it. Probably back in the 1990s.

Easily my favorite Final Fantasy. Junction wasn't shyt but equipping magic for stat buffs. It was very easy to understand once you read. But I forgot that people can't fukking read.
It's not perfect but I like it because it took chances and it's easily the biggest graphical jump between two FF games. I think its easily a top 3 soundtrack in FF and the whole Trigger system in battle for crits is cool.

3 out of 5 of my favorite FF characters are all from FF8: Squall, Quistis and Seifer.

But it is WEIRD. I love how weird and obscure it is. I like that, but if you're used to more traditional story telling, it's not for you. The 4th disc is nonsense and the ending is like something out of Twin Peaks. But I still love it.

To be fair, I think alot of the shyt about junctioning was in menus that you had to go searching manually for. It wasn't shown to you by the game if I recollect properly.
I remember having to Read/Study something for the sEEd Exams or some shyt so you could get paid more, and found a manual on junctionining and read up on it, that's how I knew to junction certain GF's with certain players based off the playstyles I had with 'em so they'd grow stronger. shyt felt like a whole text book.
But you right about people not wanting to read, so even if it was highlighted, it would have been ignored/mis understood by the masses....who were very mad that this game wasn't FF7 all over again so they were already hating on it.
