Scandrick on Giants: "Never in my life have I heard a 4-6 team talk like that. Talk, talk, talk. We had a better record and didn't talk. We’re 5-5, 6-5 now, and we have no room to talk.."

Scandrick is pissed that Ditka said the Cowboys had no one capable of covering Victor Cruz

Scandrick: "Oh, really, Mike Ditka? The guy who traded his entire draft for a running back? That Mike Ditka"

Scandrick on pregame midfield scum: "That's just the New York Giants being the Giants. You think you're going to scare us by staring at us?"

Scandrick: "The Giants have a great coach. I have no earthly idea why he let them talk like that this week."

Scandrick: "Jason Pierre-Paul was like, 'There will be bloodshed.' C'mon, man. Did he even have a stat on the final stat sheet?"

Scandrick is friends with Terrell Thomas from SoCal, said he went to Thomas after the game and told him, "Don't talk like that, just play."

Scandrick: "Ditka said we couldn't cover Cruz. Cruz had 1 catch on me that he fumbled, and it was returned for a touchdown."

The Giants and Cowboys need to meet a third time this season, maybe even a fourth. It would be worth it for entertainment purposes alone with wide receiver Victor Cruz matched opposite cornerback Orlando Scandrick.

Cruz and Scandrick battled most of the afternoon. Cruz, the Giants' top receiver, was held well below his season averages and finished with two catches for 27 yards and a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

Scandrick played a large part in that. He forced the fumble and played physical with Cruz, maybe even more physical than the rules allow.

“He always holds on every play,” Cruz said after the Giants’ heartbreaking 24-21 loss to the Cowboys. “It’s always borderline whether it was pass interference or holding or whatever. I just don’t think about that and understand that he is going to do that and play through.”

Scrandrick wasn’t shy before the game. He talked this week of his style of play giving Cruz trouble in the past. He became even more vociferous after the contest. Scandrick talked of being motivated by comments from ESPN's Mike Ditka on Sunday morning and embracing the 1-on-1 matchup with the talented Giants wide receiver. In fact, he asked for it.

Cruz came into the contest averaging six receptions and 82 yards per game. He didn't come close to matching that on Sunday. He was held catchless in the second and third quarters.

Nothing the Cowboys cornerback did came as a surprise though. It was exactly what Cruz expected, whether he was playing on the outside or in the slot. Scandrick followed him around most of the afternoon.

“You just have to understand what you’re coming into and what type of player he is,” Cruz said of facing his rival. “You watch him on the field, he grabs and holds on everyone. You just have to be able to battle through it and get yourself open.”

Cruz didn't do that enough in the last-second loss. He was targeted just four times. The Giants didn't make enough big plays in the passing game to beat the Cowboys, especially after handing them seven points with the Cruz fumble early in the contest, a play that Tom Coughlin couldn't believe wasn't blown dead.

But there is nothing the Giants can do now. Scandrick and the Cowboys won this round. The stats and win column say it all. Just ask Scandrick.
