Crime is all over the place. A lot of desperate people.
This according to them:
- Politicians - a lot of the politicians who are getting elected are not qualified. There is a lot of corruption. Money is misappropriated, hurting the infrastructure of the country.
- Brain drain - more and more professionals are leaving the country because of said infrastructure and lack of stability
- With talent leaving, the economy lose consumers with spending/tax money, affecting other business
- Businesses downsize or close up shop because of lack of consumers, adding unemployed people on the streets.
- Zimbabwe's situation is causing a lot of people from that country to cross over the border to SA without legal papers/documentation to get jobs. You have an influx of people on top of already a high unemployment rate and an infrastructure that can't support them
- You have a shytload of unemployed people who become desperate when there are no jobs available. They do whatever is necessary to survive = CRIME
- They tell me people steal EVERYTHING they can get their hands on
- One of the more common items stolen are copper wires. Including wires that are active with electricity. A lot of people, including kids, die from electrocution trying to steal copper.
- There are a lot of home invasions.
- One of the tactics they use is they'll follow a car going into their gated house and jam their cars to stop the gate from closing.
- Almost every house is gated and fenced. I'm not talking about picket fence. I'm talking about 10 ft cement with barb wires in middle class neighborhoods.
- It's just getting worse.
- It's a beautiful country though
