i disagree with this. i think a word with hundreds of years of negativity behind it subconsciously still resonates as such (negative/self hating) even while claiming to be a term of endearment. look at inner cities where the word is used constantly and you'll see the effects of speaking to each other that way.

on a subconscious level yes i believe so. look at how much hating goes on in our community? men hating other men...men hating on women...the women hate the men back....if you don't think something as basic as how we speak to each other and interact with each other plays a role in how we subconsciously feel about each other (inferior to others etc.) then i dont know what to tell you.
