Rap promotes these lifestyles. I am not from America but I can give a perspective about its influence. I live in the Caribbean and on my island there are Bloods and Crips. These images are communicated through music and media. American cultural imperialism is real.
We need to overcome these mentalities. No one is saying rap is the sole cause, but we can't negate its effect over impressionable youths.
Environment breeds the culture. The culture is a reflection of the environment whether that environment is a concrete jungle, a coastal village, a suburb, or an affluent upscale neighbourhood. The culture represent the values within a certain space and among certain groups, I say certain because there are many hardworking families even in the most destitute of areas. Lack of wealth in this century creates the same stressors no matter where you go.
