Because for literally hundreds of thousands of years humans like any other animal had bodies attuned to the rhythms of nature, we would naturally fall asleep before 9pm and then wake up around 4 naturally and then fall back asleep.

Storytelling was a skill people got good at and was prized in society. People were generally more social and had time to talk to one another because most people were farm laborers. They didnt have artificial quotas. If there was a drought or if the plants couldnt survive due to something related to the weather thats just how things were and everyone accepted that. People would work for chunks of time and then have huge chunks of time for breaks.

Social media has done something similar to what capitalism has done to our bodies and minds(obsession with time is something new) except to our social skills. On top of that, we have created a living hell where people born into a life they didnt ask for, need to make money or else they will literally die because EVERYTHING is being colonized by capital. Human needs, human wants, all of it is being monetized. There is no such thing as "enough" money, so every last ounce of attention and humanity is being tied to money. And at the same time these people dont want to raise wages.

It isnt a coincidence that more and more people are just saying "I'm opting out of this" and moving to another country and if they cant just straight up killing themselves because the alternative is a slow, humiliating, painful death on the streets. Especially with two political parties that genuinely believe THIS is the best economic and political system and refuse to make substantial changes that would at least give people a better chance of being able to claw themselves out of poverty. Yall think suicide rates are high now? South korea and japan are previews of what is to come for america.

I met a black American couple years ago in Belize. We invited them over to our party. Cool couple. They bought twenty acres and planned on starting a community where everybody works the land, everything is split evenly, and no money is needed.

That would be true if Japan was the only country experiencing this at this moment in time but it's a global phenomenon affecting both good economies and bad ones . Focusing in on the Lost decade of a single country prevents you from seeing that the country right next door was having the best economy in their entire civilization in South Korea and experiencing an even worse birth rate than Japan. same story with Taiwan where the conditions were magnificent



Birth rates in all of Eastern Europe, northern Europe , South Asia, Latin America, etc all fell off the cliff despite their country's experiencing varying levels of economic conditions. for example look at the Singapore economy which is doing fantastically, is doing so well that the government can afford to subsidize everything from housing to food. But look at their birth rate.

It's a bigger than economics. It's a global social phenomenon. You have to see the big picture. It's not the fault of any one corporation or any one country's economic conditions. Countries with horrible conditions like India or brazil are in the exact same position as countries like Singapore or Norway which actively coddle their population with subsidies and wealth.
