Don't tell any restaurateurs I said this, but if walk into a dive bar for a $6 beer, they immediately ask me if I want to pay as I go, or open a tab.
But I can walk into a $100 per plate high end steak house and they don't ask me shyt about payment until right before I'm gonna leave anyway. That's stupid

Kind of a silly system actually and the bill coming to you at the end looming over the meal can’t make diners feel good. I know it greatly diminishes the experience for me, I often ask if I can pay right after ordering


+ it’s annoying to see wait staff playing the ingratiation game for higher tips
And I’m often treated like I am a low value solo diner table who didn’t order a drink (profit margins) and is likely not gonna tip well - I do almost always tip 20 percent or round up from there but sometimes even that is a low table value for a waiter who typically has a table of 4 paying 20% gratuity on a check that includes multiple rounds of drinks with 5 million percent upcharge/profit margins (I guess this does reflect how many times they brought drinks out though) - whereas I order no drinks and usually decline water if asked



Don’t you wanna finish your meal and leave on your own accord, not pay your way out of the place at the the timely discretion of a waiter


I wanna eat and leave freely
