I always had Escobar up top until I read this breakdown
:ehh:

Pablo had unbelievable power but come on... Pablo had it far easier, no GPS tracking or internet, a new drug that hooked a whole nation, a distracted US government with the cold war, a country thousands of miles away from the US with a lot more drug supply and rural area and an incompetent government with underpaid staff... he ruled in a country with 26 million people, most dirt poor and ignorant who were easily supported Escobar because of his charity... Give Pablo the Sinaloa cartel today and see if he gets it to Chapo's level... Cocaine in the 80's was four times more expensive, was less restricted and more popular.. He'd have to deal with strong rival cartels like los Zetas, Juarez, Gulf cartel that don't negotiate alliances.. the Mexican government as laughable as it is, is not 1980s Colombia.. they have a semi capable military, they will not negotiate your own prison and high ranking officials and presidential candidates are more untouchable.. the country has a population of over 120 million people that aren't going to side with you, a very nosy media, borders the United States and has the technology to locate you at any misstep. the best you can do is probably what El Chapo is doing, he started back in the 80s and is still going, formed the most powerful cartel in history, it's amazing how he's worth $4 billion in that environment. But 'El Señor de los Cielos' Amado Carrillo Fuentes should be considered in this conversation.. He assassinated his boss to take over the Juarez Cartel, subdued and destroyed other rival cartels, imported the most cocaine ever into US soil through commercial and private aircraft, even using sea vessels to ship into major seaports. Ffs He had control of the government itself through the Mexican military general! and also had power in Colombian and Central American affairs. He had various hiding spots in the Caribbean and Europe... Despite all this he was so low-key and sophisticated that the DEA was never able to capture him, he supposedly died in a Mexico City hospital but his surgeons were also found dead, people believe he faked his death to retire on his wealth. He amassed an incredible $25 billion dollars!

a lot of this isn't accurate. i'm not gonna say much more, but pablo had many more forces working against him than chapo does. chapo's phones been tapped forever, it's a matter of when they wanted to take him down or whatever deal he cut. pablo literally made them create new technology to catch him and as for the cartel war

cartel wise, pablo dominated and controlled the market with a much smaller cartel. he had far more dominance too.
