The comments to this post seem funny to me, because when they really got going they actually seemed LATE, and not early. Remember, they were a part of that Cool Kids/Blu/Wale/Mickey Factz wave that Kanye, Lupe & Pharrel spawned. What killed them is the fact that they didn't have any product out in 2007/2008. They had the buzz in 2006 then signed a deal, but their label didn't release their album. They didn't release another product until 2009, then their buzz was damn near dead.
So nah, they actually weren't before their time.
I agree with you to a degree, but the pieces weren't in place for these new jacks yet. Mickey Factz and Cool Kids and Pac Div weren't getting backed by their labels like that

Well yeah, their labels were sitting around waiting for them to make an undeniable "Kick Push" type smash. They should of letting them drop mixtapes until the album is ready, and maybe shoot a few low budget videos. Or maybe these guys shouldn't have ever signed major deals in the first place.

That's tough. The dream is always to "go pro".

But going to the wrong organization can totally derail your career

I used to listen to these guys all the time back in the day...They made dope music and had great chemistry with one another. They would've been next up if they dropped their debut album on time but by the time it was released their buzz was dead. I feel like if Pac Div came out during the YG/Tyga/Mustard era, they would've fared better.

Young Black Male is one of my favorite rap songs ever btw
