Syria ironically is the last Arab country with a significant Christian presence, which has survived under Assad, you let the country go radicalized Islam, you can kiss the religious peace goodbye. Arabs/Eastern Europeans need a strong steady hand to guide them. Not all cultures are built for democracy.

the allies didn't fight hitler to stop genocide. they were being attacked themselves. except the US, who joined the fight out of necessity of preserving western democracy

the union army, made up mostly of conscripted immigrants, didn't fight to stop slavery, they fought to stop secession which was prompted by the southern belief that lincoln himself was going to limit and possibly end slavery
