Not surprising in the slightest as they just weren't going to get their asking price. I think the bigger question is how does this affect their relationship with TP going forward and if he goes elsewhere once his deal is up.

Its the smarter move anyway. Cable TV is dying, and BET has little to no mindshare of younger generations.

No one was paying that inflated price so out the gate Paramount looked at their offers as lowball numbers.

Bottom line is that BET/VH1 aren’t worth 3 billion and both networks have destroyed their legacy IP over the last 20 years so it’s not like the stuff from the 90s could be looked at like this value selling point.

BET is still salvageable but they’d have kill it when it comes to original programming and flat out bring on better shows. They need an “Atlanta” and a “Luke Cage” type show out the gate and simply have to lock someone like Ava Duvernay into an exclusive deal.

Meanwhile, make VH1 the youth channel and show videos and exclusive singer/rapper content and don’t put any of it on social media. And if it gets uploaded, have it reported instantly and taken down.

We dont need to do all things. Thats part of the problem. Diversify the opportunity amongst ourselves. He can create the content and let someone else close to him create a network to leverage it. Vertical integration is not directly applicable in all circumstances. Look where that got Oprah.

selling entertainment networks to entertainers is lowkey a bad idea. like, artist run labels rarely do well for this very reason. It's sad the only black people with any capital are...entertainers.

another fact...they never had all the money. They were gonna just throw in their little corners and get funding (A loan) from a larger entity. It was always going to be janky on the business end.

If anything, they should try to bring back Bob Johnson. shyt is just too critical of an asset to waste this way.
