My pops was poor and his brothers were in gangs. What he do? Take me and my mom to California.

The fact remains that those reasons the author listed aren't the ONLY reasons, and desperate gang members arent the ONLY gang members. I used the word participate for a reason.

nikka I used to work in a boys in girls clubs in rough areas in both my community and the south side Chi. But that is not my career route rn. I've certainly done more than a typing ass nikka on a forum.

When was the last time or anytime you were on the BLOCK talking to these youth? Your only example was on a fukking college campus nowhere near a dangerous neighborhood. You're a keyboard activist, nothing more.

I dont know about other cities, but in NYC a good amount of the so called gang bangers come from good homes and join on some wanna be down shyt.

My older brother became Crip because he wanted to be gangsta. A kid I went to HS with was a really high ranking blood and both his parents had college degrees and grew up in a townhouse.

Gang life is extremely romanticized in the hood. Sure a lot of kids come from broken homes and want a sense of family, but a lot of these gang members come from stable families, they just live in or near the hood and are enamored by the "lifestyle".

I'm 22 nikka as well nikka and you've YET to answer whether or not you've talked to actual youth in the hood. I have. So yeah coming from someone whose done shyt for the poor at risk youth in his community and other communities.. you're all talk, no action.

Real simple, I can break down the original post...

1. Purposefully dividing the people who look like you?
2. Killing other blacks and not getting a dime or a pat on the back from the white supremacists who allow legislation leading to those circumstances

3. Automatically having issues with someone cause of the color they wear

4. I don't get why in 2016 gang members still are seen as "hard" by some of y'all

5. don't sit here and try to exaggerate the family aspect of gangs, I understand a lot of gang members come from broken families looking for acceptance. My point is that same acceptance can be gained from an all black frat, HBCUS.. something, ANYTHING more productive than gang life.

1. Gangs usually work within the communities they are started in, it is more likely they will target people similar to them. If a Russian gang starts in a Russian neighborhood, they will most likely target other Russians.

2. I find it hard to believe most gangs are practicing actual genocide, it might look like that to someone who doesn't understand but see my first point.

3. Yes I agree, that is silly but it isn't the sole factor for gang on gang violence, you know this.

4. I believe the people that still think gang members are hard are in the minority on this site, most people here are educated individuals. I could be wrong though.

5. This point was touched in the link I quoted, most do find other outlets in life besides joining a gang but the reasons for joining gangs aren't exaggerated at all. I don't know you but I want you to go back to when you were entering your teenage years, most teenagers are highly susceptible and they don't know better. You can't expect everyone to think or know better in these situations. This was also explained in that link, most of these kids are picked up are a young age for that very reason. And not every grown individual knows better. It doesn't always come down to helping your entire race thrive, it mainly comes down to helping yourself and the people closest to you. Some people only have the gang members they grew up or profited with. I mean it's a lot more complex than just that but I don't know if I want to spend anymore time typing this out. lol

This is true in some cases. You then have kids like the ones in Brownsville and East New York who fight over project buildings they don't own. It's still poor folks both mentally and financially out here.
