Exactly so why not commission a study on reparations?

we'll see what happens :ye:

i'm sure it's not going to make anyone happy though. it will just be a study that leads to nothing without legalities (we already know the damn answer)

most of the executive orders i posted have been discussed in this forum. maga gang will post typical "these aren't tangibles" replies. which is funny because just the other day they were crying about Obama tweets :pachaha:

Because Dems know they already got the black vote no matter what and in fact are trying to become less contingent on the black vote by shifting over to Latinos. They've bled the black turnip dry and you're slowly seeing the mask fall off in how they view blacks. They won't do anything for you specifically and you better hope to grab what you can off of the 'rising tide' benefits while they feel free to use black pain and tragedy to push forth their real agendas of lgbt, gun control and abortion

These Internet Streetz
we cant even get black politicians to stop giving more money to cops. we have tested the waters enough to know that black dems themselves will sabotage it, water it down with symbolic politics, or POC/LGBTQ rhetoric. and then, once you are done fixing that, you have to deal with cacs and other non-blacks who generally dont want it. time to focus on the sellout aspect of our own politics before shooting straight for the top on reparations. it may even be better to get reparations in local situations first and start setting some meaningful precedents.

I agree he should do that, that should be done, unfortunately even if done grand scheme its useless without actual legislation and a push from congress. Half the people in here representives a part of the problem.

Executive order doesn't require house and senate.

An executive order is a signed, written, and published directive from the President of the United States that manages operations of the federal government.
Executive orders are not legislation; they require no approval from Congress, and Congress cannot simply overturn them. Congress may pass legislation that might make it difficult, or even impossible, to carry out the order, such as removing funding. Only a sitting U.S. President may overturn an existing executive order by issuing another executive order to that effect.

Executive order - Wikipedia.

That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works. :mjlol:

First off, a President can't assign or distribute federal money via executive order. That still needs to be approved by the House/Senate. It's why Biden couldn't just automatically cut everybody an extra stimulus check as soon as he was sworn in.

Secondly, executive orders can be reviewed and reversed by future administrations. So, the next president can immediately kill that shyt if they felt like it. It's almost like the government was originally designed with a set of checks and balances in mind.

:snoop: Came here for "Bu..bu..but Republicans"

Ya'll never concede that Democrats fail at anything. It's always some special reason. Same with Roe/Wade, the Democrats had the power to solify it, but, choose to dangle it like a carrot to a rabbit, to have something to run on.

I'm not giving them a pass at all. It's just simple numbers. Just taking the Senate alone, they only have a majority of technicality. They've got 50 seats, plus the VP as a potential tiebreaker. For something like reparations, they'd need a supermajority of 60 votes to get it passed, not a simple majority of 51 in the event of a tie. And even then, they can't get the tie because Machin and Sinema are deathly afraid to actually vote along party lines on shyt like that.

Now, if they held enough votes for a super majority in both chambers, we'd be able to have a real conversation here.

.

An executive order has the power of federal law. Presidents can use executive orders to create committees and organizations. For example, President John F. Kennedy used one to create the Peace Corps. More often, presidents use executive orders to manage federal operations.

Congress may try to overturn an executive order by passing a bill that blocks it. But the president can veto that bill. Congress would then need to override that veto to pass the bill. Also, the Supreme Court can declare an executive order unconstitutional.

But creating a committee or organization doesn't automatically make reparations happen. First off, it could never be a committee of only pro reparations congresspeople, and even though they'd be the minority, the opposers would still drag shyt out to run out the clock on Biden's presidency and/or congressional support. See the Jan 6th Committee for an example.

Secondly, even if the committee came to the conclusion that reparations should be dispersed, it would still result in a bill that needs to make it though both chambers to get passed. The numbers just aren't there right now, unfortunately.

Again, if they had the numbers to sustain a supermajority in both houses despite potential dissenters, and STILL didn't bother, this would be a completely different conversation.

This thread is only about the study of reparations.

Also, waiting for optimal conditions (in regards to a study) is not a good strategy at all.

The time is whenever we make it the time.

What do you want them to do, bruh?

How are they suppose to make a law when they don't control congress?

The bill isn't just to create a committee for the sake of research. It's to determine if reparations should be issued, and then what that compensation should be. By approving the bill, Congress would essentially be accepting that this is a thing that's going to happen.

That's why I said the timing isn't right. If has nothing to do with making time for it, it's about getting enough votes. And right now, it's mathematically impossible.

It's one of the most direct real life interpretation of "We don't believe you, you need more people" you're going to see.

"Dem" don't "control" Congress. To pass a bill you need 60 votes, Dems have 50 on paper but 2 of those 50 are actually just conservatives.
You know good and damn well nobody's going to acknowledge this, and you're about to get called a shill.

Nancy Pelosi hasn't even put the bill up for a vote in the House, where the simple Dem Majority is all that is needed for it to pass the house,. So bringing up the Senate right now is just a distraction.

2 seconds of reading the OP and already know he does not know how legislation works. shyt on Joe Biden for his actions and inactions. Stop having opinions on shyt when you don't know how it works.

Also, as stated, Dems don't hold Senate currently. Sinema and Manchin are right-wing money takers who will tank the agenda. You would think by now people would know this.
