The ones lucky enough to tell the tale will even admit it and there's several videos of dudes who explain how they got caught up. The problem with a lot of dudes is they have no kind of awareness or street smarts and people can spot that a mile away.

This is cap . All you gotta do is be a wealthy foreigner ( in their eyes) and you a target. You could be in Colombia to climb mountains and paraglide and get robbed in front of your Airbnb/hotel. You can easily be drugged and robbed by Ubers and taxis. If you give them opportunity they will take it.
