I disagree since scientists/academics/etc. don't build communities. That is the pastor's job. What's really needed are theologians in Churches. These are people who study the text academically AND 'spiritually' alongside pastors. Too many people are just plain ignorant of the text and the 'faith' as is evidenced in many of the comments throughout this thread. Having theologians in Churches would allow the laity to better discern whether the leader of the Church is actually doing what he should be rather than what he wants to....which is an issue in all facets of society.​

Yeah I feel you, if I was a dumb ass older nikka I would also assume only kids read as they are closer to school age. I mean I feel you, I think the bible is full of bull shyt but I also don't claim to follow it. But you Christians always want to have it both ways.

There's 1500+ years of history in the text from an extremely unique perspective. As far as the 'bullshyt', that comes from ignorance as we aren't the intended audience of the texts. Most of the stuff in there is lost on us or relegated to 'fairy tales' but nothing in the text was put there haphazardly.​

It seems to me that it isn't only the believers who want it both ways, but the non-believers, as they are always claiming something is 'wrong' or 'evil', but they have no rational basis upon which to judge that without using parts of a worldview they claim is wholly irrational.....which has never made sense to me.​

How would you know if a 'supernatural miracle' has/hasn't happened? From my perspective, life, itself, is pretty much a 'supernatural miracle'.....as is how much our species has figured out how the Universe works.​

Science and history mesh quite well.​

Praying works the same as meditation.​

Going to Church reinforces a sense of community.​

I know a lot of hypocrites, but that doesn't mean ALL of them are, nor does it mean what they profess to believe in is false.​

Ancients civilizations believed what they believed to give answer to the what and how since they didn't have the advancement in science to make practical sense of it. They also used it to keep the separation from the haves and the have nots. "You are poor because you were met to be poor and I'm of divine lineage"
