Let say, some people are less influenced than others. Yes, some are able to partly escape the 'conditioning'.

But it's impossible to totally escape your environment. It always leave a trace on you; the place you live, the people you be with, the music you listen to, the movies, etc. It leaves an imprint on you.

It does. But why is it so hard to block out the things that is counter productive to your own well being? You can learn positive and negative things from your environment..

yep, it starts with parenting

May I ask what was the reason the murder rates in the 70's were so high yet rap wasn't even a thing mainstream yet.

You know since rap is the most terrible thing that is effecting our community if you let the coli tell it. :jbhmm:
Parenting will never over ride culture. The exceptions will never negate the rule. Alot of people know better but still choose to ride with the 'culture'. So it's not a matter of 'not knowing'. They are following what the majority are doing. Parents can only teach, parents can't force.

You can do that.

But you don't choose what influence you and what does not. Your environment even influence you on a subconscious level.

The average person, especially in his formative years, is not a self aware being. He's more like a semi sponge.

Hence the importance of a good environment.

Of course, you can change later. But everyone ain't the same on that level. Some people have that ability to look into themselves and make drastic change. For some, it's harder.

It's like some people have an addictive personality. Some others don't, so they can stop a destructive habit more easily. Preventing is better than curing.

So, once again, the environment.

:ehh: That's the point!

Yeah, from going to community oriented values of Jim Crow and the Civil Rights Movement to cutthroat "I got mines, fukk you!" mentality of the Ronald Reagan Administration to get material possessions meant for Europeans. Even the basis of materialism gotten 1000 times worse in the Crack Epidemic.

A 23 year old grown adult being influenced like a child

:mjlol:
Adults are influenced every day by media, by advertising, by peers. I don’t even get what this mean.

Ja is also still a young man who is a spoiled, coddled professional athlete and has likely always been “popular” and gravitates to what the culture promotes which is mindless dumb shyt.

You laid out the groundwork of why parenting is so important. Especially the bold because you have people who are actually called "sheltered". Sheltered meaning, you had parents that kept you from a lot of bullshyt, and guided your some of your steps until you were a better decision making human..

Of course parenting is important. In fact, your parent are also a part of your environment... Your family is your immediate environment, at least it used to be... With internet, it's not that true anymore...

But on the MACRO level, parenting is not enough, especially in an era where parents never had so little influence on their kids.

A fukked up culture will GLOBALLY produced fukked up individuals.

Culture matters.

I mean think about it. We can find books on people’s struggles etc but it’s kinda lightly discussed. I’m sure there’s theses in obscure journals touching on aspects of it or marginal topics like criminal justice backlash. But the literal era itself just seems under investigated.
Under investigated?

Man I’m cracked out with all the shows, songs, documentaries, books, articles, movies dedicated to this time period.

I love this song :wow:

Almost as if hip hop is an influence but not to blame for an NBA player's antics. It seems like hip hop seems to be a venture next to bball while Ja was, is, and continues to be a fukking dumbass.

Rap/hip-hop is just a vehicle used to deliver a message. Is the "message" thats the problem, not the vehicle. Please tell me yall understand this!!!!!:mjcry:
