I think this could be overplayed. It's not necessarily certain that Manafort has anything huge on Trump, or that he is going to let out what he does have. If he has stayed completely stoic on Trump info this whole time, Mueller may have cut a deal just to save resources and not go through more trials. The deal might be more for his cooperation on prosecuting others than for anything specific on Trump.

The biggest thing that we know he has is Donald Trump Jr.'s Russia meeting. But he could still claim that only Jr. knew about it, not Sr.

We'll see. I don't think this is a huge deal though. Manafort had a potential Trump pardon in his back pocket, so Mueller may have been willing to cut a deal for less than ya'all think.

Some of ya'all don't know how to use rep. How :dahell: do I get negged for an honest assessment of the legal implications of the deal? :mindblown:

If Mueller's report comes out in a couple months, and we find out that Manafort's deal wasn't a game-changer in any of the major items of contention and Manafort didn't share anything Mueller didn't already know, would that really surprise anyone? What kind of lame negs people for making honest assessments? :heh:

Isn't the point to also corroborate, not just shed new light?
It depends. In the court of public opinion, Manafort corroborating an already known public fact after striking a deal probably doesn't hold much weight. There aren't really any public facts regarding Donald Trump and Russian collusion out there right now that would shift the public opinion if corroborated. So we really need something more than what's public already.

So far as I see it, we're really looking for three things:

#1. Verification that high-level officials in the Trump administration, such as Trump Jr. or Kushner, did something illegal when soliciting help from the Russians. This would feel especially sweet, but probably doesn't help the country a ton except to the degree that it distracts Trump from hurting the nation in other ways. Perhaps it would slightly de-legitimize his presidency more so than it already is. There's a chance that Manafort can help here if he spills good beans about the Trump jr. Russia meeting.

#2. Strong evidence of Russian collusion by Trump himself. What's already out there is fairly damning (openly encouraging Russia to hack emails, obstruction of justice in firing Comey), but obviously hasn't been enough yet. There seems to need to me some more evidence of direct contact, and I would be really surprised if Manafort has the goods here.

#3. Strong evidence of financial or other crimes committed by Trump outside of Russian collusion. This is actually where I have the greatest hopes, but I don't think Manafort is the one who is going to provide it.
