"I think the hate [for the Knicks] has grown a little. Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it's grown to another level," Pierce said on ESPN NewYork 98.7 FM's "The Michael Kay Show" on Thursday. "I think it's time for the Nets to start running this city."

The only thing that separates the two teams is a bridge. And both of them are in the same division and both of them are considered contenders. You can't help but say this is probably gonna be the best rivalry in sports next year."

"What team in the NBA can say they can put a starting five out there with all the guys have been All-Stars?" Pierce said, referring to himself, Garnett, Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez. "That's tough. It's definitely the most talented team, but come the end of the year -- June, July -- when I'm out there on the beach, I want to say this is the best team I've ever played on, and the only way we can do that is to win a championship."

I want to see how Brooklyn gels. They can be a huge disappointment if injuries factor in.

I like it, confident in the talent but not willing to call it his best team without a title.

And he ain't lying about how live Nets/Knicks could get this season, with both teams being good and adding KG/Pierce who are right at the top of Knicks fans shytlists.

Only thing I'd say is even if we won a title this season, we still don't run the town because Knicks fans will always outnumber us, especially in the diehard department. Winning bandwagon fans means fukk all because they will just go year by year and see who does better. We'd have the headlines, but there'd still be 8,000 Knicks fans at every Nets/Knicks game in BK and we can only get maybe 1,000 into MSG. Knicks fans are all the way the fukk in on their team no matter what, and I'll always respect them for that.

:childplease: If the Nets win the championship Knicks fans are going to be on suicide alert. So this wouldn't be about winning the hearts and minds of new Nets fans. It would be about killing the soul of old Knicks fans. If Brooklyn wins this year, that would be the ultimate ether to Manhattan. nikkas can't walk around the city with any pride after that. I can't imagine the pain of watching the Nets win in year two of being in Brooklyn when the last time NYK won was ten years before most coli brehs were born.

You right about how intense this rivalry will be, though :wow:

For basketball it's Knicks, for football, it's Giants and for Baseball, it's Yankees and it's really not close. And i really don't see this as a "rivalry". There's no real history between the two teams, it's being forced. It may be a rivalry in a few years maybe even starting next season (depends on what happens on the court) but right now, the biggest rivalry/hatred in NY is Mets Yankees. The Knicks are New York's team while the Nets are Brooklyn's/bandwagon fans team.

One of these teams this season is not going to live up to the hype. Once again it's NY hyping they own shyt up every year to only look foolish come the post season. Knicks ain't won shyt in 40 years, Nets ain't won shyt since they merged with the NBA. I ain't expecting either to do shyt but make the playoffs.

It would hurt Knicks fans if we won, but they are still not going anywhere. That team has put them through hell especially in the Isiah era (which as an outsider was hilarity) and yet they are still just as crazy about that team as they were before that. If Isiah Thomas couldn't kill their pride then 1 Nets title isn't gonna either. It will put a ton of pressure on the team to get one back tho, and the fans will want it even more. But dudes aren't gonna pack away their Knicks gear and hide in their houses because we won.
