I'd add memory to that too.

How can they know what’s going on if they’re blindfolded?

Is the announcer basically telling them what’s going on and where everything is positioned?

How hard is this chess shyt anyways?

People be acting like this is the hardest game ever created and shyt :mjlol:

Prolly some boys club shyt where all the grandmasters gatekeep methods and strategies the average person could never figure out on their own
Its a very complex game that can sharpen your mind. Its strategic, thinking steps ahead, anticipating and expecting things, understanding the potential consequences of your own moves, etc.

All of that can be applied to real life.

There are strategies and traps that you memorize and blend into your overall strategy while reading your opponent. For the most part these people are not coming up with new strategies on the fly every game. My dad was deep into it and he taught me the game at an intermediate level but spending the amount of time studying and learning complex setups was not for me so i dont really fukk with it anymore.

Think of Tom Brady. He isnt reinventing the QB position every snap. Years of experience has taught him what to look for and how to plan his attack accordingly. You can throw some wrinkles at him but he will read it and know how to react for the most part.

Can it really tho?

I’ve always heard that lazy ass chess and politics comparison. There’s a fukkton of elitism surrounding this game for literally no reason.

No different carry over to real life than any other two player game where one must strategize, plan ahead, and learn patterns.

Chess not a thinking man’s game, it’s a memories man game.

Not necessarily. And even then isn't it the same thing. I can sit look at board and look at the likely possibilities of how it can play out. Think of a plan and responses, know what the sequence likely will be and place value on what they are doing and whether what I'm doing has priority. There's multiple concepts to consider and balance and weigh at the same time. Concepts like limiting their mobility. Opening up shyt. Playing in situations where you have more material.. playing with equal material but dominant. Tactical combinations. Set actions and traps you trying to get into..

I've watched this girls YouTube videos. Hers and her sisters and most of these they just styling on people who are good but who I think I can beat as well. If you want to see the interesting shyt I'd recommend watching hikarus twitch feed on YouTube. You can see his reasoning

In some ways, it's almost easier to play against a "good" player than an average or lower level player with a quick mind.

The good player will make obvious, logical moves while the smart but less experienced player might do some unorthodox shyt. Harder to make sense of what they're doing if it doesn't follow any specific pattern.

Some people are "chess minds" where they do well thinking far ahead and planning moves.

Others have a "live wire mind" where they're better at making quick decisions on the fly with limited info and analysis. Most people aren't both.
