Michael Sam is trying his damndest to hold on to that little bit of fame and attention he got for the cake kiss and being drafted. Now it's just kind of funny to watch him flail around trying to get back into the spotlight.

I wonder if the general public knows that there are already gay players in the NFL and NBA, just not openly gay.

Both Michael Sam and Jason Collins said they didn't want to be known as 'the gay player' but rather just as 'a player.' So if you take that for face value, I don't understand why they (the media and the corporate sponsors) make the sticking point that the player has to be openly gay.

They could've been known as 'just players' if they hadn't come out of the closet to fanfare, pats on the back from the dominant society, and accolades. And quite frankly, If they really wanted to be 'just players' neither of them was good enough to make a pro roster.

That alone makes me question their motives for coming out in the first place. Was it to advance acceptance and promote positive ideals of diversity? Or was it to get some shine and a roster spot? I know you guys remember Jason Collins' SportCenter highlights of him setting screens and fouling people. Ditto for Sam and that one tackle in preseason.
