She got off because the prosecution refused to budge on any other charge than a ridiculous murder 1 they knew they couldn't prove. They refused to give the jury the option for a murder 2 or manslaughter. So when they couldn't prove the murder was pre-planned, which you have to on a murder 1, they had to acquit her of the only charge the prosecution allowed. It's almost like the prosecution knew exactly how to acquit someone of murder. She most certainly would have had a murder 2, or manslaughter, but they were withheld.
