Apple has revealed the Mac Pro, its most powerful computer ever.

It is a modular computer – complete with a silver design with holes in it – that is intended for professionals who need as high performance as possible.

It was revealed alongside a screen, called the "Pro Display XDR", into which it can be plugged to create a desktop-style computer that holds vast amounts of speed.

From $0.18 a day, more exclusives, analysis and extras.

The new Mac Pro will start at $5999, which it said is cheaper than comparable PCs. It will release it in autumn as well as a differently sized version that will be meant to be mounted in racks.

Apple repeatedly bragged that the specifications inside the computer made it "unprecedented" and that it could be upgraded to include performance never before seen on a Mac.

The previous version had not gone updated for five years, and Apple said it had made severe mistakes in the design of that computer that stopped it from releasing new updates. It had avoided those issues with a new design and a "tremendously capable cooling system" which includes an enormous fan, it said.

As well as claiming the computer was its most powerful ever, Apple said it was its most "configurable" version, too. Apple will let people add a wide variety of different hardware to their computer, as well as the new display.

During the reveal, Apple showed off how the new computer could easily deal with multiple streams of very high quality raw 8K footage. It also showed off how the computer could run Logic, its music composing and recording software, with hundreds of different tracks playing at once.

It can also comes with wheels, so it can be pushed around on people's floors.

Both the computer and its display have an unusual set of holes in the back, assembled in a lattice pattern, which it said will allow heat to leave more easily and achieve higher performance. Thermal problems had been central to the issues with the previous Mac Pro.

The Pro Display XDR was revealed at the same time, and takes its name from the "extreme dynamic range" that Apple says it can show. It can be bought separately from the Mac, allowing it to be used with Apple's MacBooks, and includes a host of new technologies as well as a stand that allows it to swivel and attach to the wall.

The display will cost $4999, which it claimed was cheaper than the other professional displays it was comparing it with. Like the computer, it will come out in the autumn.

Apple revealed the new Mac Pro at its Worldwide Developers Conference, where it also showed off a host of brand new software updates.

Wack 2k is the most anyone should pay for a computer. The fact is that a new version comes out every year. Also if it breaks you will need to repair it. Also computers are already powerful and fast as it is what's that extra 4k really doing for you?

Spend 6 racks on something, then, spend 6 more racks to repair it, brehs......that is, if you can even find someone licensed and authorized to repair it under warranty in your country.
