Them Lo Lifes...
If you got fans, friends and support selling 20-40 tickets shouldnt be a problem....proof is in the pudding.

You do this often enough, PROMOTERS will see you bring a draw, have a fanbase and bring income.

So until that happens local rappers will continue to rap in the 200 capacity venue chitlin circut.

Jay-Z was out here getting shut down til they put money together to do everything. At one point Hov was opening for Lil Cease (probably a favor) but dude had no name at one point. The only reason you even know who Jay-Z is is because he had to spend money on exposure.

People sink thousands to millions of dollars into videos, music creation and PAID promo. Some even do PROMO tours where they invest $ in travel, rooms, etc and pay whoever they can to get a few minutes on stage. There should be no questions or doubts about this.

Even Major label artists may not be paying out of their wallets for all this but best believe it's coming out of their budgets!

What if you're given tickets to sell upfront with no cash deposit, they give you 50 tickets and you have to sell 20 tickets at $20 a piece. You can sell 30 tickets for profit.

Is this worth it to you? There's a potential $600 to be made plus merchandise and exposure

That's worth it though. As long as there's more of a return than loss.

Everything has a cost. There is no rapper on this board who's team or they themselves have not come out of pocket to be seen.

There are artists who will pretend to be indie all while having their budget spent on doing shows and paying media to type or speak about them.

There is nothing organic that you have seen or are seeing right now.

There is power in being seen. Millions upon millions of dollars are spent on just that. AND there is still no guarantee.Didn't you just hear about Lady Gaga label losing like 25 million in promo because her album FLOPPED.

It's real out here. A lot of these PR companies charge artists like $5,0000 just to get songs or albums to websites for 90 days. AND that still guarantees nothing. Your song may get picked up by a site, but then if no one buys it you just wasted that money.

Bottom line is it takes $ to make $. Relationships come from being visible. You have to pay to play. If you aren't willing to invest and create an opportunity then don't do it. If you don't have faith in your product, don't do it.

A chance meeting can spawn anything. You have to get in the building to have that meeting though. A lot of people will pay something petty like a little $200 a show just to be presented to an audience. You stand a better chance than just sitting home having fun making a bunch of music that you have no way to get to the masses. If you're dope, people will remember you and talk about you.

Any business will tell you that nothing beats Word of Mouth promotion. NOTHING!

This explains the overwhelming amount of rappers who just got "blog love" and nothing else that are going nowhere.

From what you described...that's basically throwing money out the window.

you hear what i'm sayin tho...
last album i actually purchased was that first slaughterhouse cd.
i don't give a good wild fukk if they all sign the next one, they ain't gettin no 10-15.
maybe that comes w/age, i'm 32.
and all these youngsters got ipods so they really don't have much use for a cd anyway.
dj's could use the vinyl i suppose but even they would rock serato or some exclusive edits anyway.
the physical form is dying, die hards will buy it, not enough die hards :yeshrug:

AND, AND especially-if you're an up and coming rapper, which this thread is about....you're gonna have a cotdamn hard time pushing them units. $10 for a local rapper cd

breh that's a longshot nowadays.

Dude, I see up and coming rappers on the street trying to push their CDs to people for $5 in Times Square.

b!tch please...I don't know who you are and what your music sounds like. Why should I pay $5 for a weedplate and blunt wrap tray?

there's nothing wrong with paying for opening up for certain artist, you just have to be smart and be business savy about how you're going to put on a great show, separate what everyone else is doing and have the right street team behind you to make you look BIGGER than what you are, if you have the rigth IMAGE, then by all means $200 to open up for someone shouldn't be S*it and you get more out of it.

this is an insanely silly question, no offense.

if a rapper with a core base is coming to town and packing the venue, if i'm a young hungry artist trying to get a name why the hell wouldn't i pay to be on that same stage to open for him and expose my music/movement to all those people?

Duke you searching for my dikk to hop on all of a suddenly. You got pent up aggression breh. Take it out on your right hand and hop off my dikk.

First off Jay did open a show for Cease in like 97 but like I said it was just a favor or some homie shyt. Jay wasn't always Hov and Jr. Mafia was popping in what 95, 96. It was awhile ago but I remember it. Just not what the occasion was.

:laff: :laff: :laff:

this is exactly why i refrain from even discussing shyt on this board with folks like you..

furthermore.. no one knows who you are, or what you're talking about.. i rarely post here anymore, besides music.. so, unless you said something equally is dumb before(which, clearly isnt far-fetched), I would have no recollection of discussing anything with someone as dumb as you..

this dumb ass said Hov in '97, was opening for Cease.. :heh: go find a dark corner, and sit in it..
