No they would be African-American of Guinean descent. :yeshrug:

A Black person that immigrated from another country would be a Black American. They would not be an African American, because an African American is a Black person who is descended from slaves in the USA. It replaced Afro-American, which replaced the terms Black, Colored and Negro.
Bennett, What's In a Name? Negro vs. Afro-American vs. Black (1967)

They even use the terms Black or African American on the census form.

They have obviously gotten tired of foreign nikkas claiming to be African Americans, because on the 2020 census form they are going to ask Black Americans to identify their origins. So Jamaicans and Nigerians nikkas will no longer be able to claim that they are African Americans.

I’m only going go refer to myself as African-American going forward because it’s more specific than Black or Black American. Any person of African descent can be Black American but you can only be African-American if you’re DOS.

Technically, this should be the other way around.

No it shouldn’t because Black is a race and African-American is an ethnicity/culture belonging to Black people in the USA who are descendants of slavery. The only reason the term “African” is used in “African-American” is because American DOS are a mix of tribes all over Africa so you cannot specify it any more than “African”.

I always say black but I don't have a problem with being referred to as African American

I’m both.

Black is my “race” and African American is my ethnicity.
This is actually a dope take, because it's def a culture. However, Jews still aren't called Jewish_American. They just get to be white. The ethnicity comes later. When I travel out the country, I'm American-- the minute I come back I'm African-American. The white guy sitting next to me? He steps of the plane and he's still "American".

you're NOT "n!ggas"

Cacs will categorize us as 'African American' but not themselves 'European American' as if they didnt migrate to the Americas from Europe:mjgrin:

European immigrants are just regular cacs now. Cacs are getting the most smoke and will have to pay the majority of reparations. Black immigrants are catching strays for being wilful puppets of cacs.

:dahell:

Remember how we were discussing this last week String? I never did catch exactly what you meant.

So what happens when a newly immigrated African wants to be called African American - you explain to them why they’re not that?
