PELICANS EXERCISE THIRD-YEAR OPTIONS ON ANTHONY DAVIS AND AUSTIN RIVERS

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that the team has exercised the third-year options on Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers.

Davis, the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, started 60 of the 64 contests he appeared in and averaged 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds,1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals in his rookie season. The 2012-13 NBA All-Rookie First Team member led all rookies in rebounds per game, blocks per game, steals per game and double-doubles.

Rivers, the tenth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, averaged 6.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 61 contests (26 starts) throughout his rookie campaign.

It's not a shocker. As bad as he was, they're in no hurry to cut the cord on him.

Next year though, they may not give him a 4th year if he doesn't step up, but 99 times out of 100 the 3rd year gets exercised.
