Rip. I remember her films at the times came out. Not sure if people really don't know her in here or if it's just some inside joke.
She was the first female director to make a move that grossed a 100 million. Laverne and Shirley was on all day every day during 80's and 90's. Big was a gigantic hit. She also did Jumping Jack Flash when Whoopi was super famous and incredibly in demand. I used to watch that one a lot.
Plus Awakenings (One of my favorite movies ever.)
A League of their own when all those girls were popular. Madonna was huge and Tome Hanks had his first gritty role that i can remember. It was a national move at the time and baseball was honoring all those women that year. Same with the Academy.
Plus

in the Preachers Wife.
She's been dying for a while so it's not too big of a surprise. Watch her films if you get a chance.
edit. Thought I was in the Film Room. That's why i was like.
