Compared to what?

Killing people once they outlive their shelf life ?
Large amounts of homeless old people dying in the streets?
Increased elderly people in prison?
Building state/federal facilities for large swaths of the elderly?

Seems like you're chasing low hanging fruit in the grand scheme of things.

I think you would find the majority of union contacts have gotten worse for workers not better over the years as well.

answering a question with a question let alone multiple questions is not a good look.

can more than one thing be accomplished at once? or should there have been a direct payment standalone bill?

I'm laying out potential problems and the cost associated with them as the issue is clearly fiscal to you.

I think pensions are better than the alternative options that I see becoming untenable.

none of those potential problems are remotely realistic..particularly because i said current recipients should have their pensions honored. i dont think a retiree getting 10k a month pension is going to be in danger of dying on the streets nor do i think people are going to be executed upon retirement

@Chef Mello oh and yes I agree could say you have to live in the state theoretically(I'm not sure if that would be legal I'm leaning towards no) but that creates a bunch of other issues like housing and etc where at least in the north east this ends up driving the costs up for younger people/families. I know I've read about it before but I can't recommend anything off the top of my head.

Also idk about CT but in NY
Is My Pension Taxable?
Most NYSLRS pensions are subject to federal income tax (although some disability benefits are not taxable). NYSLRS pensions are not subject to New York State or local income tax, but if you move to another state, that state may tax your pension. Visit the Retired Public Employees Association website to see which states tax pensions.

kicking the can down the road would be not doing anything and letting the state get into more debt to the point where no pensions would be payable AT ALL.

so you recognize there may be a problem but aren’t interested in searching for the root causes of that problem. that’s smart.

what if there isn’t a problem with the way pensions are structured, but the problem lies in governmental malfeasance?

my intent was to try and avoid the political talking points and just address the numbers and logic going forward

the government fixing its own malfeasance isnt likely

look at this shyt. the state of connecticut is taking state taxes from people making 50 grand a year so they can pay a fukking business professor a 350 thousand dollar a year pension :what: what could this fukking college professor possibly have done to earn this or generate that revenue?

You should see Illinois.

I know people collecting 3 different pensions.

Some lucky (connected) employees get the option to “buy” additional years of service in order to qualify for retirement earlier (and at a higher salary for final 3 years - which for some jobs they take that average to determine pension amount).

It’s just a fukking mess.

my solution is in the OP..which never said get rid of pensions. in actuality..your solution is to get rid of pensions because you dont seem to want to do much of anything..which will result in some states going broke and not having future pensions or the ability to continue paying out current ones.

it's this simple :yeshrug:

these elitists think it's noble to put the problem off and say nothing until the whole system collapses and no one gets a fukkin pension, but that makes you a good person because at least you didnt say pensions should be cut. embarrassing position

then neither is getting to the root cause of any problems with a govt program.
