QUEENS NY
The thing is, pension reform has been changing but slowly and gradually. There isn't much you can do to existing tiers that are contractually obligated without being sued to kingdom come. I'm a Firemen, the tier I'm in we have to do 25 years instead of 20. We pay 2-3% more into our pension. Our OT while technically isn't capped is capped in a round about way. You can't completely fukk the unborn and then have them work with guys with a sweetheart pension, it'll create serious animosity.

Thank you for the insight.

Regarding the latter..thats why I suggested cutting it for people who relocate. Minimal other adjustments.

I got an idea for pension reform: SUCK MY dikk

Stop carrying right wing shytheads water for them...they want pensions to go away because they hate the idea of ANYONE getting ANYTHING for free if there's a minute chance that non-White people might get it, and that's the bottom line of it.

There should be MORE pensions and GOP lapdogs and the shills that post on The Coli for em should stop trying to fukking workers in the ass because *sniff sniff* they might have to pay an extra % on their capital gains tax or *GASP* get taxed more for income over 400K

God you nikkas love sucking your oppressors dikks and then telling us that both sides are the fukking same

it's not possible that it's an unsustainable ponzi scheme that was destined to fail, right? it has to be because the big bad GOP fukked it up?

they shouldnt do anything to existing tiers, if you signed on the dotted line you should get what you signed up for

but someone is gonna have to say "tough shyt" to the new guys eventually :yeshrug: theres no reason they cant change the pay structure for people who havent started yet. and this should be accompanied with a pay increase up front. but it's that or the whole thing tanks

im not even against pensions. in an ideal world there should be more pensions, sure. something has to be re-adjusted in the formulas or whatever to make them viable long-term. they need funding thats not going to be there at the current rate. if you want to act like im advocating for ripping up contracts and taking away retirement benefits from employees then be my guest. its just simply not the case

What is your remedy? I'm all ears

Brother I honestly don't know. The system is set up to encourage the type of corruption we're talking about, and then protect those in govt who take part. This whole system needs to be drastically restructured, but I don't see it happening.

:yeshrug: not one person here is against taxing the wealthy more and very few are against raising capital gains tax so idk what the hell hes talking about. God forbid theres any conversation about reforming pensions so people can still receive them.

my solution is in the OP..which never said get rid of pensions. in actuality..your solution is to get rid of pensions because you dont seem to want to do much of anything..which will result in some states going broke and not having future pensions or the ability to continue paying out current ones.

I'm not seeing that. I was actually pointing out that eliminating pensions or reducing them will only create new expenses and societal issues. Pretty straight forwards really. I figured you understood that even if you didn't like it but I guess I was wrong.

NPR Choice page

Maybe try this first? Give criminal justice reform a real shot, maybe close a few prisons?
