. I was actually pointing out that eliminating pensions or reducing them will only create new expenses and societal issues.
how would capping pensions at 80k per year create new expenses and societal issues? people would have to go on less vacations?

If you're going to start the conversation by cherrypicking I'm not going to bother. More to the point you barely make more than minimum wage and you've chosen to align yourself with a race to the bottom in wages and benefits. It's a bit much really lol.

you're a fool who's too stubborn to admit that he's wrong about this. meanwhile new york is extorting all us 5 figure peasants who live there to pay for these pensions :mjlol:charging those people you despise 20 bucks to drive over the bridge

the pension system is a disaster that will fail; your fake holier than thou act wont change facts. kicking the can down the road doesnt make you a good person

I'm not seeing that. I was actually pointing out that eliminating pensions or reducing them will only create new expenses and societal issues. Pretty straight forwards really. I figured you understood that even if you didn't like it but I guess I was wrong.

NPR Choice page

Maybe try this first? Give criminal justice reform a real shot, maybe close a few prisons?

Killing people once they outlive their shelf life ?
Large amounts of homeless old people dying in the streets?
Increased elderly people in prison?
Building state/federal facilities for large swaths of the elderly?

:comeon:

death panel rhetoric :picard: cant believe youre using right wing talking points

it's like we're all watching a car drive slowly off a cliff and he's calling us bad people for noticing that its driving off a cliff
No you're being called bad people because you in patrticular love pretending that there hasn't been a concerted effort by the GOP....at the Federal Level and State Level....to hamstring the budgets of states (and by definition their cities) so that they have the tough choice of honoring their promises to their workers or doing what the private sector takes delight in: screwing the little guy and letting them know they're expendable...in good times and bad...

McConnell has been vocal about it and so have his predecessors....this is why we say you argue in bad faith

Because you know better...and this is why I say it's not about the money to you

im not even against pensions. in an ideal world there should be more pensions, sure. something has to be re-adjusted in the formulas or whatever to make them viable long-term. they need funding thats not going to be there at the current rate. if you want to act like im advocating for ripping up contracts and taking away retirement benefits from employees then be my guest. its just simply not the case
fukk you

WalletHub's newest report confirms what we, Connecticut residents, already knew and that is, taxes are just too high. Connecticut ranks No. 2 at having the highest tax rates in the country.

Thankfully, Illinois was able to beat us out for this dubious honor of having the highest tax rates in the country. If you're fed up about Connecticut's high taxes, WalletHub suggests you might want to consider moving to Alaska, Delaware, Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada, which have the lowest tax rates in America.

Here's the specific and depressing data concerning Connecticut:

Tax Rates in Connecticut (1=Lowest; 25=Avg.):

  • 50th – Overall Effective State & Local Tax Rate
  • 24th – Income Tax
  • 48th – Real-Estate Tax
  • 47th – Vehicle Property Tax
  • 19th – Sales & Excise Taxes
After Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York follow in the rankings of highest tax rates. Connecticut may stand a chance of catching Illinois next year as several new taxes are being considered in the General Assembly as Connecticut tries to find its way out of a multi-billion projected deficit.

Gov. Ned Lamont unveiled his budget proposal to the General Assembly in February and called for a number of new taxes and electronic tolls.

One of the biggest changes Lamont is proposing is taxing services at an equal level to goods. This would include barber shop and beauty salon services, veterinary services, legal, accounting, contractor fees for home renovations, dry cleaning and vehicle trade-ins. This would bring in an estimated $292 million in the first year of the budget and $505 million in the second year. It wouldn't apply to business-to-business transactions, such as legal fees charged to a company.

Here are some other proposed new taxes or increases:

  • 25-cent deposit on liquor and wine bottles
  • 10-cent tax on plastic grocery bags.
  • Tax on nip bottles.
  • 1.5-cent tax per ounce on sugar-sweetened beverages ($163.1 million in FY 2021)
  • 75 percent tax on electronic-cigarette liquid ($6.7 million)
  • Increase hotel tax from 15 to 17 percent.
Eliminating more sales tax exemptions:

  • Parking
  • Massage therapists
  • Horse boarding
  • Waste collection
  • Repairing boats
  • Winter boat storage
  • Digital downloads
  • Non-prescription drugs
  • Newspaper and magazines
  • College textbooks
  • Child car seats
this is why im trying to think of ways other than adding too many more taxes for connecticut. im more than fine taxing the wealthy closing loopholes etc..but at some point it drives away the tax base, young professionals leave and there is very little left. matter of fact im mostly talking about connecticut in this scenario as well. if other states apply then sure..but obviously each state is in a different situation

its pretty embarrassing to see this being framed as "rich vs poor" when the reality is that these states all tax the fukk outta the middle class to pay for this :dahell:

taxing the rich does not pay for or solve this. they DO tax the rich already
