i lived in hawaii for years...there aren't very many full blooded polynesians there at all....they've been bred out....hawaii is full of asians....and whites...
the polynesians you do see are mostly somoans....

They should've casted a darker skinned Polynesian person.

The actress they hired is a lighter skinned Wasian. No excuses.

Seems like Disney hasn't put out anything that's not a live action remake of one of their old cartoons, a sequel to one of their cartoons or some MCU flick over the last ten years.

They have put out a few original movies in the last few years. Most of them have been critical and/or financial failures though.

Yeah I know they own 20th Century Fox and Searchlight now but just seem like everything under "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" is just some retread shyt. Even the Pixar flicks are basically all sequels.

You can't be Black and not understand where they're coming from on this perspective considering for the longest Hollywood has cast non-Black actors/actresses to portray Black people for hundreds of years going back to the days of the silent film/Blackface era .

As far as Disney is concerned, people have forgotten because they've done so well in rebranding their image, but in the beginning, they've always been on some shyt.

They fumbled that casting all the way. It’s only two things people remember about that movie, the little blue alien and that the sister was THICK.

The sister casting is all wrong.

Ive never seen LILO and Stich. Any of these newer Disney movies worth watching?

Almost everyone I know under 35 holds this movie in high regard. I just watched it again with my nieces and nephews it's actually aged well and conceptually it was ahead of it's time.

With that said. I think a more converted effort should have been made to least find someone with real Polynesian ancestry as a key character but it's clear they are trying to appease 'certain types'.
