Creating oasis's on the internet is going to be the new wave.

the scary thing is that no one knows the long term effects of this much instant gratification on society. smartphones became super mainstream (kids had em) in 2010. social media runs high school now, it's fukking pathetic. kids get depressed about how many people like their selfies. this wasn't the intended effect of smartphones when they first came out but shyt changed the game. :mjcry:

to play devil's advocate, sedating people with technology is kind of a good thing. technological unemployment is going to wreak havoc on what's left of the middle class. expect a 80% dirt poor 20% rich population in the future. those poor people need something to distract them from the reality that they're slaves only used to make other people rich. :wow:

It's literally becoming like the Matrix. The next step would be to put the economically poor and distracted people into life size pods.

When will this happen :dwillhuh:

When we run out of fossil fuels

In 2015, the United States generated about 4 trillion kilowatthours of electricity.1 About 67% of the electricity generated was from fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum).

Major energy sources and percent share of total U.S. electricity generation in 2015:1

  • Coal = 33%
  • Natural gas = 33%
  • Nuclear = 20%
  • Hydropower = 6%
  • Other renewables = 7%
    • Biomass = 1.6%
    • Geothermal = 0.4%
    • Solar = 0.6%
    • Wind = 4.7%
  • Petroleum = 1%
  • Other gases = <1%

Some estimates say we may run out of oil before the end of the century. I don't believe it though we probably have hundreds of years left before it happens.

... but other energy will still exist.

Yeah, most estimates predict we'll run out of fossil fuels by the end of the century. That could happen much sooner though, as countries in Africa and Asia become more dependent on electricity.

People don't realize that this technology won't last forever. Soon, we'll run our of energy sources to produce electricity.

We'll have no choice but to revert back to our natural ways of interacting with people face to face. Life will be harder for sure, but maybe it'll be more adventurous.

I'm trying to prepare myself by limiting my use of technology. I don't use my smartphone very often, and I mostly use my laptop to post on the coli and check the news.
Theres also the ever growing issues of technological waste and raw materials used to produce technology running out.

I'm just glad I'm old enough to remember what life was like before the internet and smartphones took over (born in 82). Kinda of gives u a different perspective on where we are now and makes me feel old as shyt when I think about my childhood :flabbynsick:
