She was born rich. The average hair salon brings in 250/600k. Coupled with her Daddy’s income (90’s at that!!) thats well over the top 1% threshold.

130k in 1990 is $277,308.80 today.

In Houston.

That's working rich. You talking multiple cars, big house with plenty rooms, multiple foreign holidays. The benchmark of getting it. A breh earning 130k today is good let alone 30 years ago.

Matthew was that bruddah man. Highly educated. Got his paper. Raised his daughters right. Got him a bad Lousiana redbone trophy wife. Who he helped put on and get some bread too by herself.

The Knowles family were definitely upper middle class by American standards. That means nothing though because the black community is different.

In terms of the black community, Matthew and Tina went to Fisk, Matthew is an Omega, and Tina has Creole ancestry so that puts them squarely within the black bourgeoisie.

Although Tina doesn’t have elite creole ancestry like the Haydels, Glapions, or Rochons, the only thing keeping them a step from being upper class blacks is that they don’t have the JnJ/Links, etc affiliations.

They probably have family that do though.

Saying they were the 1% is a stretch though. They were paupers compared to a John Johnson or Reginald Lewis in the 80’s.
