First Class is one of the biggest scams in traveling. None of the amenities equal up to the amount of extra money you have to spend. It's really just a status thing.

Delta has the best first class amenities out of all the airlines and I get them free for being a frequent flyer. Only time I'd ever consider paying for first class is a trans Atlantic/Pacific flight with double digit flight time.

Business class. First class basically is non existent for most carriers. If the company is paying best believe you’re going straight to the meeting after touch down.
I was gonna say Delta. Or even American; first class or main cabin “extra” is perfectly fine.
Maybe domestically and if you are paying out of pocket. But if you have the miles or your job is paying, First class on international flights is an hell of experience.
I hate flying but when I get to fly first class on an international flight, i never want the flight to end.
But you are ultimately right, paying for it out of pocket is not worth it. Better to take that money and spend it on a nicer hotel, meals and experiences at your destination.

Got star alliance upgrade perks with one of my cards. I use it to pay online utility bills and pay them in full, so for the last 8 years I’ve gotten free or heavily reduced upgrades to first class on quite a few domestic and international flights. Otherwise, paying off the rip for first class is a waste of money.
