Damn this reflects the fact that a lot of people are really living paycheck to paycheck. My first thought was since many of these layoffs have taken place within the last two weeks, how could people already be struggling to eat. Then I recalled the fact that a lot of Americans don’t have savings and are a paycheck away from homelessness. Everyday I thank God for a my blessings. Cant even imagine living paycheck to paycheck and not having savings to get through, especially now.

Unemployment and food stamps are still being issued every day. Applications for both are being accepted online. Amazon, grocery stores, delivery companies are begging for workers. Again, there is no reason to freak out if you have the least amount of resourcefulness. Nobody is being evicted, utilities aren’t being shut off, stop it.
You’re making it sound a lot easier than it is. Unemployment websites across the country are struggling due to the sheer number of people trying to access them. Literally go to twitter and type in “unemployment” and see the hundreds and thousands of people having issues. People are being offered ridiculously low amounts of money compared to the wages they made that barely sustained them in the first place. Some people are struggling because employers have given them zero hours but haven’t technically terminated them so they’re having troubles filing.People who have been cut hours but still work 2 or 3 days a week and as such aren’t qualified for unemployment. Independent contractors and freelancers typically can’t get unemployment either. And this is before even trying to navigate and make sure their families are covered via health insurance.

Bottom line: Y’all trying to minimize the stress that folks are going through right now is ignorant and heartless as fukk.

this lil denial game yall playing gonna backfire. people food supplies already starting to dry up. people weren't prepared for this big run on the grocery stores like this.

Because Americans don't know how to fukkin act and hoard buy for no apparent reason

The grocery stores are going to remain open even as the virus gets worse. The only people who need special attention are seniors who can't afford to shop at the same time as everyone else. If the grocery stores run out of food or actually shut down then there's bigger issues at hand.

In times like this, the best attitude to have is both caution and calm, not tipping into panic or carelessness one way or the other because both approaches will just make things worse. It's really no surprise that the countries around the world with the worst and slowest legislation / bureaucracy (China, US, Italy, Iran, Spain) are getting hammered. Safety nets and infrastructures getting exposed because leadership at the top is 100% incompetent and systemic practices have been shytty for years.

Yep all of this sista and also if folks have savings / emergency funds most are still going to apply for unemployment if they get laid off.

I have a savings / emergency fund myself. But if I was laid off tomorrow I would still file for unemployment immediately.

Even in a crisis like being laid off you want to still hold on to as much of your savings / emergency fund as possible.

Bro people are literally running out of money. Folks that live paycheck to paycheck already have been out of work for over a week so far. That is a problem. Then they still gotta pay rent coming up this week? That’s a bad combination.

This

I have a friend that works in overdraft collections at bank the story she tells me

It’s bad out here

people don’t have money for food

People should file for unemployment as soon as they lose their job regardless of what they made
