I don't know what you mean. Both terms exist and one is common nowadays the other one isn't.

if a republican referred to a group of non-whites as "colored people", do you think there would be people on the left crying foul?

People would think he is not up on the current events of the last 50 years. If he says people of color no one will say anything.

assuming that's true, that's quite ridiculous.

"people of color" sounds like something the white people in GET OUT would say, thinking that somehow it's an acceptable way to label people... only not realizing that they are doing the EXACT same thing as the people of old.

the movie GET OUT was an indictment against liberals btw, not conservatives. the point of that movie was to explore the subtly of liberal bigotry.

"people of color", "inner cities", "urban environment".... these are all just underhanded ways of referring to black people and black neighborhoods. it's codetalk for soft bigots... like the ppl in get out.

I agree with what you said about Get Out. And PC culture is kinda stupid and has run amock. It is something academics sit around writing and speaking about like it's of the utmost od importance when it's not. But that particular term I actually like. It is another brief way to reference all non-whites. I use it.

that's cool my man, you can use whatever language you like. 'murica.

but PC language is sneaky and evasive in it's nature, and i am usually suspicious of people when they go out of their way to use it.

people that adhere to PC thought and PC speech usually are either insecure and/or feel they have something to hide, or they're virtue signaling.

i refer to black people as "black people". i refer to black neighborhoods as "black neighborhoods". there is no reason to call them anything else unless you are purposefully trying to cover up something. beware of any person that says things like "inner cities" and "urban areas"... these are people who are conflicted and insecure and are subconsciously putting on a front.

"people of color" imo is yet another ridiculous term. if black is a color then white is a color. like you said in reality what it means is non-white. i'd actually have more respect for people if they just flat out admitted it and said "non-white" instead. because POC sounds like a very vague, bendable term that can be applied to whatever the fukk.

but you will probably see a lot of people refrain from saying "non-white" because they feel it will stir the pot. you'll never hear a democrat campaign for "non-whites" in fear of alienating whites. but anyone with half a brain and common sense knows that "people of color" means exactly that.

anyways that's my two cents.

I can dig it. And yeah, PC speech can be used as code, especially by politicians and the academics who made up a given term. But most people are followers and don't have such ulterior motives. They are just saying what people are saying nowadays. They just want to be current.
So while your suspicions are justified. I don't think it applies to most instances.

op was banned for 'cism, first reply is from fairly new account with very few posts

the person that refers to white ppl as cacs calling someone else racist. can't make this up.

its easier to call someone racist than to admit one's own hypocrisy i presume.

Guess the connotation of how it was used and who used it. During Jim Crow era “colored ppl” GENERALLY referred to black people and was a substituted term for negroes.

In basic grammatical terms it is equivalent to “ppl of color” but in a broader context it is referring to minorities. A more inclusive term.

Now, do you want to make a thread about why black ppl can use the n-word and you can’t?

If you go back into slavery times, people labeled themselves Free Persons of Color to distinguish themselves from being black, which was associated with being a slave.

Never heard someone refer to themselves as that until I got up North. I see it as backwards, and a way too try to be inclusive. It fails because I hate to hear white people say it, and it does nothing to tear down the binary of white/other.

I say People of the Global Majority. Thats what we are and it escapes colorist talk. But if you want to call me a person of color, just call me black. Or say which races/ethnicities you are specifically talking about.
